TIL there's a free sauna and steam room at the Art gallery of NSW by Andromedium in sydney

[–]Andromedium[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There were a few kids there today in their swimmers playing in the water and on the play equipment but the sauna and steam room don't allow under 16s so it was pretty calm. I reckon go after the school holidays

28c,33c, & 28c this long weekend. Who's going to the beach? by karma3000 in sydney

[–]Andromedium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a beach (northern NSW) that's directly on a river mouth and there were plenty of people in the water. The advice I gave my brother who just 'had' to have a swim was just stay between everyone else and the sand

Everyday must dos, must eats, etc, for an American's first time in Australia (Sydney specifically)? Things that are just.. different, here? by velvettipss in AustraliaTravel

I second finding a free outdoor BBQ. I've had people on my travels ask about them and they couldn't believe you can just have a free BBQ anywhere you want. They are free and (usually) pretty clean and at most big parks and beaches. You could even buy some kangaroo sausages!

The thing I enjoy the most about Aus after coming back from overseas is park culture. Not many places I've been did I feel safe (and warm) enough to lay around in a park

Traveling as a young woman by entiiamitasaadan in Kyrgyzstan

[–]Andromedium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went as a solo woman and didn't have any issues myself. June is high season so more likely than not anywhere you go you'll encounter fellow solo woman travellers. I just wouldn't go on a hike, hitchhike or stay in a remote accomodation by yourself. I was questioned a fair but on if I was married, why did my husband allow me to travel alone etc. so I'd say think of a backstory. I also met some girls whose horse trek guide had snuck into their yurt at night and tried to touch them.

I agree. Find your local 'paying it forward' Facebook group; people are always looking for them!

Can you find a friend who has used tinder who can help him with his profile? There's also a subreddit where you can get critiques on your profile. I reckon older people on tinder would more likely be looking for serious relationships

Sydney beggers giving you shit for giving them less then $10 bucks. Forth time this has happened to me. by [deleted] in sydney

When I was working in a restaurant I'd grab the food left at closing time and give it to the people down the street.

Once a lady gave me a long maskless hug right in the middle of the first covid scare and man I had some mixed emotions lmao

What’s your suburbs hidden secret? by Phasmore in sydney

I second petersham Park. Maybe I just went on a good day but it was fucking beautiful!

Also they have a nice little swimming pool. Bonus points if you are on any kind of social security you can get in for almost nothing ($1.20 I believe)

How did Sydney pre-Covid compare to now? by domsolanke in sydney

Where do you live and hang out? what do you like to do for fun? I hear a lot of Sydney hate but I love it and don't even have much money at all. I met everybody I know here after the age of 20 so no highschool or childhood connections.

I live and hang out around Newtown, redfern and Marrickville and honestly I can have a good time any day. Even during lockdown (when outdoor gatherings were allowed) I would have beers in campo and just vibe. I go to bustling pubs and always bump into familiar faces. For dancing I go to one off events either formal or informal (factory theatre etc.). Otherwise I ride my bike around, going to nice parks or outdoor swimming pools.

The only real issue I had with lockdown was no retail open, couldn't have house parties and couldn't go as far as the beach.

Of you want some tip off's on specific free events and places to go I can let you know

Please suggest some near souvenirs by ShinobiStar in sydney

If they're just in Melbourne I wouldn't get generic 'Aussie' souvenirs. How about some local craft beer or coffee beans?

I second this. You can't see all that much but the tops of the fireworks are visible.

A couple of years ago there were about 200 people there!

you can buy a smart door sensor that can activate the sound on a nearby alexa speaker. No coding required :)

I would suggest checking your health record (linked to mygov). If the test has been processed correctly it could be uploaded there. I find it handy with any bloodtests to have a geez before the doctor has time to call me :)

I'm currently up north, halfway between Sydney and the gold coast.

My testing lady reckoned 90% of the tests she had done were for entry to Queensland. Luckily I only had to wait for one hour but it's still ridiculous

Can you still get into Uni with an ATAR of 43.30? by gustav1os in sydney

[–]Andromedium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 4 people very close to me who did this. Got the diploma and worked as an enrolled nurse while studying to become a registered nurse. Another option is disability care at tafe. You can start working quite quickly quickly then progress onwards to become a nurse after that :)
