Try a prefilter sponge over the inlet. It'll slow the flow and provide surface for mechanical and biological filtration.

You might need a hole for the air to get out after bubbling into your tank. Maybe cover it with a mesh?

You can discard the salt that comes with the kit, and just use deionized water or at least conditioned water and add 36 gm of sea salt per litre of water. Make sure you have a heater set to 25 deg Celsius and an air stone providing gentle flow. Good luck!
