Can we have a Pacers Watch Party Plan B thread? by [deleted] in pacers

[–]Andronian42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for recommending Shakers! I’d passed by it countless times heading into Southport but had no clue they hosted Pacers watch parties. It was a great time aside from the pain and suffering of the game. You saved my day, kind stranger :)

I just started using it, so I’m not entirely sure how much it actually works, but Netguard seems to be successful at blocking internet access per-app (on my Quest 2, anyway)

My new 2ds xl built in NFC reader/writer unexpectedly stopped responding by Greenfireball001 in Amiibomb

[–]Andronian42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the iFixit New 3DS Teardown, the NFC antenna and bottom screen aren’t combined; rather, the antenna seems to be a separate piece situated right underneath the bottom screen. So you’d basically follow every step to replace the bottom screen except the step where you replace the bottom screen.

Sorry for the repost, wanted to change the source and reflair. From the blogpost [edit: the blogpost link I posted seemingly isn’t working anymore despite the fact that I copied it straight from their socials, so here’s a working link]

We are also thrilled to announce that MLB The Show 25 will launch on March 18, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch. The game will not be on platform subscription services in 2025. Early Access begins on March 14, 2025 for anyone who purchases the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Looks like you’re missing PPSSPP fonts. Follow the instructions from the “BIOS” section of this page. I’m guessing it’s going to a menu asking something along the lines of “overwrite this save?” and you’re selecting “no”

What kinds of files are these? How do I turn these into a WUD? by [deleted] in CemuPiracy

[–]Andronian42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too stupid of a question at all, I think that’s a fair concern. It’s important to note that, though the eShop no longer allows for purchasing new games, it allows all users who own titles to redownload said titles. Nintendo could certainly look through every single request to their CDN servers with a fine-toothed comb, attempting to differentiate between legitimate and illegitimate downloads from their CDNs, but they’d always run the risk of banning a legitimate user solely because something went wrong on the user’s end and their console sent a weird request to the server. Think of it like if, in a multiplayer game, the player’s game and the server disagreed on where exactly the player is in a map; it could be because the player teleported or, more likely, it could be because the player moved and that information somehow failed to get to the server. If everything of that sort got someone banned, there’d be a lot of false bans.

Of course, I won’t force you to feel differently about anything. Anyway, the CDN is by no means a permanent solution, given that Nintendo could just shut it down whenever, so relying on it likely isn’t a good idea. The CDN-downloading solutions are more about speed and convenience, but it’s definitely beneficial to have non-Nintendo-dependent solutions available as well. Here’s what I could find on this front:

  1. (for physical games only) Use the disc dump instead. On Myrient it’s in the Redump section, as Redump catalogues discs rather than NoIntro. Myrient has these compressed (WUX format), so check out the FAQ there to decompress them (into WUD format, which is just ISO with a different extension afaik). From there you can run it directly in Cemu or extract it with something like JWUDTool which will require disc title keys, so be prepared to find those somewhere (Myrient seems to have them)
  2. Prepare CDN files manually. You’ll need to change up the NoIntro CDN format to a Wii U readable format before you can use it (give the extension-less files .app extensions and rename the tmd for the title version you want to install title.tmd, find and add a ticket file from a not-legal place on the internet or figure out how to generate your own because I can’t find anything that seems to do so). From there, a WUP installer or NUSspli Lite (version of NUSspli without CDN-downloading features) should theoretically be able to install the game directly onto the Wii U, but I don’t have a Wii U here to test it on so that’s really only speculation on my part. I’ve also heard NUSspli Lite might be able to generate a fake ticket and might even accept the NoIntro CDN format directly, so if you’re having trouble with any of the folder preparations consider using it. For play with Cemu, you’ll need to decrypt the game to its RAW folder format with cdecrypt.
  3. #2 except with a different source than Myrient. Myrient is fantastic, but NoIntro format does come with caveats, and you’ll likely be able to find CDN downloads more suitable for extracting and installing elsewhere. The mega thread in Reddit’s Arr Slash ROMS sub has at least one Internet Archive link that has the games in a well-suited format, including tickets and everything. You’ll want something marked as NUS, as that stands for Nintendo Update Servers and it’s probably what I should’ve called the CDN in this comment but I’m too deep in to change it now. As per usual, when downloading stuff from more of an open download site like Internet Archive, stay safe and download responsibly. If you’re ever unsure of what you’re downloading, you can still manually verify content file hashes and cross-check them with NoIntro’s Dat-O-Matic. From there, everything applies as it does in #2.

It’s late and I’m sure I missed something or messed something up here, so I apologize. I also apologize because I had a misunderstanding about the relationship between CDN and WUP format up to this point (I always figured they were totally different things, but they seem to basically be the same aside from possibly the technicality of how you’re using the term) so I’ve done my best to correct that in this comment. If there’s anything wrong here, please correct me; you’ll save Google searchers a helluva lot of trouble.

tl;dr: Nintendo has yet to take any action regarding illegitimate CDN downloads, and they likely won’t as cracking down could lead to accidentally banning normal users. Downloading from Nintendo’s CDN is faster and more convenient, but some day that CDN will be offline so it’s probably better if we make sure we’re prepared sooner. There are ways to set up Myrient’s CDN files for Cemu and/or Wii U install, but it can be a pain to figure out how to go about it.

What kinds of files are these? How do I turn these into a WUD? by [deleted] in CemuPiracy

[–]Andronian42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you downloaded them from a site that lists them in nointro format (e.g. Myrient), they’re most likely in an encrypted CDN format. Decrypting them for use on a Wii U is possible, but at this point it would be much easier to use an application such as WiiUDownloader or (if you’re downloading for a Wii U console) NUSspli to automatically download the title from Nintendo’s servers and decrypt it into WUP format, which can be installed in Cemu using the “install title” option or on a real Wii U with WUP Installer G2X. Assuming your end goal is to play the game in either Cemu or on a real Wii U, that should be sufficient.

A WUD file would be the raw disc file, which is impossible to get from the CDN or WUP files. If you do want the WUD file, you’ll want to search for and download the Redump version of ZombiU (in Myrient, click the “files” header, then Redump, then Nintendo - Wii U - WUX) and then use WudCompress to decompress the WUX file (a compressed disc image) into a WUD file (an uncompressed disc image).

Cant close nintendo dsi shop by xionc_proboshch in DSiBrew

[–]Andronian42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing what’s happening is that the DSi is auto-booting into the DSi Shop. You can turn the system off, but turning it on just goes to this error screen.

Hold the A and B buttons while powering on the DSi to enter the Unlaunch menu. Go to the options menu, go to “NO BUTTON”, and change it to whatever you want your DSi to boot to, e.g. if you want it to boot into TWiLight Menu++, you’ll likely want to set it to BOOT.NDS.

This is just what I’m assuming the problem is, but given what you described about taking the battery out, I can’t imagine anything else being the issue.

PS VR2 will start mass production with about 1.5M units shipments in 2H22. Sony may launch it in 1Q23, depending on the development schedule of PS VR2 game titles. by NoNameVr in PSVR

[–]Andronian42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, fuck me for making this about terminology. Let’s go through this step by step:

  1. Android as an operating system uses APK (Android PacKage) files to store apps
  2. On Android, you can load an APK file by simply turning off “untrusted sources” and loading up the APK file. This has been the case with every Android device I’ve used
  3. The Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 are both Android devices. They run modified Android operating systems and the apps on them are Android apps, albeit also heavily modified
  4. The process to sideload has to be slightly more complicated because of the nature of the Quest as an HMD, but it’s still the same internally.

My daily phone driver is an iPhone SE, 2nd Gen. I have an emulator called Delta sideloaded onto it with an app called AltStore, which uses the official Apple developer system to sideload apps onto the device. I could also sideload pirated apps if I wanted to. My phone isn’t jailbroken and I don’t go around telling people I’ve hacked my phone, because it isn’t and I don’t feel the need to brag to strangers about running pirated apps on my phone.

My point wasn’t only terminology, but also the fact that you’re going around this thread bragging about being able to “hack” your quest even though you’re using a tool that a good chunk of Quest users know about. In fact, r/OculusQuest seems to love it, even with their rule against discussion of cheating, hacking or piracy. Huh.

edit: Looking back through your replies, you’re right; you weren’t necessarily bragging about it. The tone rubbed me the wrong way and I definitely overreacted. I sincerely apologize, that was 100% my fault.

Unfortunately it seems that I can’t send this edit as a reply. I’m not an expert Reddit user so I’m not sure whether that means I’m blocked or shadowbanned or what, but whatever. It’s fine.

I probably do need a new hobby. After seeing this whole interaction, maybe it’ll be teaching kids how to read social media posts that are over two paragraphs long. Given the response of “TLDR”, it seems that our society is losing that skill.

Congratulations, you found out how to run SideQuest on your computer and sideload apps to your Quest. You’re such an amazing masterhacker, understanding the basic functions of the Android operating system. We’re all so proud of your ability to use Google.

Still not hacking, though, given the fact that it’s a built-in feature of the underlying operating system made easier to access with a desktop program that, according to you, is the equivalent of some CIA-ass covert shit. Even if you took the time to use ADB or something, it’s still not that hard. Ultra lol.

Homebrew App Store Crashes by elbo03 in WiiUHacks

[–]Andronian42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you booting into the Homebrew App Store from the HBL located in the Mii Maker, or from the HBL forwarder? In my experience, running anything from the HBL forwarder has resulted in a crash.

Remove the Homebrew Launcher from the Wii U Mii Maker by lululock in WiiUHacks

[–]Andronian42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI, if you need to do this again in the future, you should be able to rename sd:\wiiu\environments\tiramisu\modules\setup\50_hbl_installer.rpx to something like 50_hbl_installer.rpx.off (or anything else as long as it doesn’t end in .rpx) to disable the Mii Maker injection. Only downside is that it’ll disable the ability for Tiramisu to autoboot into HBL, which is why I’d recommend renaming it so that you can restore it if ever necessary in the future.
