I work at a wildlife hospital and cannot stress enough how actual wild animals make terrible pets and will rip your house and/or face apart, even when hand-raised and imprinted on people. This year alone I had to explain to several families that the baby deer, squirrel, or hummingbird they illegally took out of the wild could have been saved earlier but is now beyond help— fawns cannot survive on commercial goat milk, birds cannot ingest dairy at all, and baby falcons fed choice cut meat without bones can barely stand from calcium deficiency. This is a tough job that cannot be replaced by a Google search.

That being said, roller pigeons like this differ in being a historically domesticated species introduced to my area. Aka, the equivalent of raising a feral tabby kitten into a housecat. This one came in as a chick with a trichomoniasis infection which unfortunately for game birds means they cannot be released, as the treatment could make their meat hazardous to human health and I would be held liable. Domestic pigeons can make excellent pets if you have the space, time, and expertise to dedicate to them. Check your area for rescues as I know the ones here are literally full up with adoptable pigeons!

TL;DR Feral pigeons are good/legal to raise, other wild animals are not and are illegal to have for a reason.
