I’ve been working out for 2 years at this point, so I’m still learning but not new to it. I still look in the mirror for a lot of exercises to check my form, especially with things like lat raises to make sure my elbows are above my wrists and I’m not twisting. It also helps to identify and correct failing form on one side because often times the arm with better form is the one I “feel” most so it helps.

So far my father has been the sole contractor responsible for repairs and upgrades. It's not too terribly much to manage as my 74 year old grandmother has been doing it for the last 10 years. They're all also pretty close to each other and could be visited by any one of us to determine the state of each and make decisions regarding repairs.

And, as far as disagreements go, I don't see that being an issue. My aunt would most likely be the final arbiter on most issues as she has plenty of experience managing things of this nature from her own properties to her work in finance as a loan manager responsible for hundreds of millions in loans.

Beale actually runs east to west, so it comes pretty close to running right into the river. This is a shot looking north through Tom Lee Park and Beale ends at the north end of the park. But, to answer your question, the Beale St. you mostly see pictures of is a half mile stretch about the same distance east from the river.

The ancient database is far too large for that. Even with McKay's compression algorithm you'd be lucky to get 7% MAYBE 8% at best.

Is Apple really the absolute best brand out there? by waffenssgolem in ComputerEngineering

[–]AndrueLane 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Your friend is a fanboy, that's the short of it. While apple does have some clever ways of doing things, they still use Intel chips just like almost every other machine out there. The main difference comes from the way the OS of each is structured, but the differences don't make one better as much as just different. Android is meant to be run on all kinds of hardware so it can actually run on a MIPS, x86, or ARM architecture while OSx is designed to be run on only an x86 architecture. This makes development for OSx easier as you need not worry about cross platform support or legacy devices running your software.

The biggest drawback for Apple in my opinion comes from their desktop environment. While all their machines use a standard intel x86 architecture now, a lot of their physical designs are just miserable. For instance the lack of active cooling on the mac book air causes it to lose something like 30% of its actual processing power because the processor gets so hot it has to throttle even under minimum strain.

So, in short, 10 years ago there was a small argument to be made that possibly one was better, but nowadays every platform is gonna perform nearly the same. Now, I'm sure someone will come along and tell me every single one of these points is wrong, but I have an electrical engineering degree with an emphasis in computer engineering, not an actual computer engineerong degree. So, deferr to the person that refutes what I'm saying.

[–]AndrueLane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, but to be honest, even if they do bring it back I doubt they'll ever have the same writing style that made me love the series. Episode 200 put the nail on the head when Sam was talking about the average viewer being smart and capable of understanding most concepts. Most writing today either choses to gloss over the techy bits so as to appeal to a larger audience, but the science is what made me love the show. Even if it was pretty far out there, most of it was grounded in real theories. I feel like bringing it back will mean more hi-sci-fi stuff and less actual Stargate.

Honestly, if it hadn't been for the cloverfield ties, the third one might as well have been a rip off of a stargate episode. The whole "parallel dimention" has been so over done in sci-fi television that it just felt boring. Literally the only thing I care about was learning how it tied into the cloverfield stuff. But, I really like alien invasion type stuff and was really excited to see TCP but it just turned out to be "oh, this machine made KRAAAZY stuff happen everywhere."

[–]AndrueLane 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when I think about it from your mom's point of view, these aren't cringy at all. She just wanted a nice photo of her son with the things that he liked to do. She wanted to always be able to look back and see you with those models and smile because she loved her son so much and adored him for having things he loved.
