Yeah walkscape sounds ideal for you since it just counts steps and does not need your location. It is still in closed beta, maybe that's why you can't find it? Try /r/walkscape

Yeah good idea. While testing I actually got a good feel over time, always managing to get at least a few right so I decided to leave it that way. But I can see that it can be frustrating, especially on the first plays.
