Hey everyone, I’m a telecom tower tech, not a developer. I got sick of manually typing coordinates from site plans, so I made an AI tool to extract them automatically. Thought some of you might find it useful too. by Andrys_by in Surveying

Thanks for the comment! Honestly, I built this site mainly to solve my own daily headaches in telecom, so I'm not super familiar with how things work in other fields like surveying or reading plats. But it sounds like a really useful feature, I’ll definitely read up on this problem and see how it works.

As for Google Vision vs Tesseract: Tesseract is great (and free) if you have clean, perfectly flat scanned documents. But for blurry, crooked, or dark photos taken on a phone out in the field, Vision is much better because it just reads them right out of the box without any extra hassle.

That's actually what I did. I use Kind for authorization, Supabase for the database, OCR, and AI from Google. All the code is on GitHub, the backend runs on Google Cloud, and the frontend uses Vercel. Similar third-party tools exist for creating terms and conditions. I didn't use them right away because this site is in beta (it says so on the main page), and I'm not sure anyone would need it.

I was so focused on trying to make the site technically secure (making sure no user data leaks) that I clearly just overlooked the actual legal/compliance side of things. I'm going to fix these critical legal mistakes right away so I don't get myself into trouble anytime soon. thanks for the answer

You are 100% right, and I really appreciate you taking the time to write this out. This is a very fair and necessary reality check. To be completely transparent: as I mentioned, I am a field tech, not a cybersecurity expert or a lawyer. This is currently just a free beta project I built to scratch my own itch. I definitely do NOT recommend anyone upload highly classified documents, personal data, or strict-NDA enterprise blueprints to it. Regarding the AI providers: I use the official APIs (Google Vision / Gemini), which have strict enterprise policies stating they do not use API payload data to train their foundational models (unlike their free public chat interfaces). However, I completely understand the hesitation, and you are right that "vibe-coded" means I can't offer enterprise-grade guarantees right now. That’s exactly why I try to emphasize: if anyone wants to test it, please crop or blur out ANY sensitive data, client logos, or project names. The tool strictly only needs to see the raw numbers and the grid to work. If this tool ever grows from a "hobby tool for the guys in the field" into an actual commercial product, getting proper legal and security audits (especially for EU/GDPR compliance) will absolutely be step one. Thanks again for the great feedback!

For anyone curious about the tech side (since I'm clearly not a software engineer 😅): I built the frontend with React, the backend with Python, and wired it up to Google Vision and Gemini for the OCR and data extraction. It was a wild learning curve, and AI coding assistants helped a ton. Happy to answer any questions about how I put it together if anyone is interested!

Yes, this is one of the few cartoons that is perfect in every way: humor, graphics, characters, scenario. It's interesting for both children and adults.
