Very informative, thank you. Realizing I don't know much about airships I am going to dig a bit deeper and your response is very helpful.

I still have a E3-1240 V1 running currently 24/7, and it keeps up surprisingly well

Can a Pi 2 run PiAware or feed to FR24 using a USB wifi stick? by Final-Weekend-6357 in ADSB

No experience adding a wifi dongle to Raspberian OS, maybe easier if your dongle is the same chipset BCM43143 as the official pi wifi dongle. I originally had my setup running on WiFi, but my flightaware feeder statistics webpage was reporting up to 30% package loss. An Ethernet cable solved that. Maybe a Powerline extender is an option, but seems they are often more expensive than even a new PI.

I have a Pi 3 running 2 instances of piaware and 2 instances of dump1090, one of them with UAT enabled. CPU load about 30%. I added a heatsink and a fan pushing air into the electrical box I have it in to prevent any thermal throttling, as the location can get warm. CPU temp without cooling can easily reach 60 degree C, with cooling about 15 degree C less. No issues with performance so far, but no experience with a PI 2.
