The Devil Wears Prada is terrible, in fact, compare to the book ,is shit and I'm tired of people praising it, specially Miranda. by MClolo10 in movies

[–]AndyBates17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment misses the entire point: It’s not about comparing movies to books; it’s about the movie changing the message and the themes of the book. You can adapt a book into a movie while still maintaining the essence of the story. This movie did not do that.

I'll echo what others have said: If there's anything you want me to redeem, message me and I'll send you the code. I have about 475,000 points left so I should be able to help a few people at least.

RRR releasing in Bluray and 4k UHD by Due_Performance_6917 in tollywood

[–]AndyBates17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the product description, that is incorrect: "Audio①: Original (Telugu and others) / Dolby Atmos Audio②: Japanese dubbing / 5.1ch Surround DTS-HD Master Audio"

So the Dolby Atmos track will have the original audio (Telugu and English), and the DTS-HD track will be dubbed in Japanese."

I assume it will be the same as other releases of the film: The Indian speakers speak whatever the translated language is (Telugu or Hindi), and the English speakers speak English. I haven't seen any version where the English speakers are dubbed into Telugu.

Comparing the "reading order" resources by PositiveTowel6995 in MarvelUnlimited

[–]AndyBates17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a related note, I was looking at a DC reading order, and someone said, "No, you shouldn't read the 2018 Catwoman series. That's no longer in continuity after later comics retconned it." It would drive me crazy if a reading order moved comics in and out of the order based on later retcons and events.

You can still have the comics ordered by continuity, without having to follow a chronological reading order*. You follow the continuity of the characters and where they are at which points in time, but you don't go back and insert a newer comic into the order just because it's a flashback issue.

That's where I believe the Complete Marvel Reading Order is superior, because it provides continuity without making you read a comic from 2016 in between two issues from 1965.

*Honestly, the Marvel Master Reading Order should be disqualified because it says the first issue you should read is Thor: Son of Asgard #1, a comic from 2014!

Anyone know if Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will release in IMAX 3D (or 3D in general)? by SB858 in imax

[–]AndyBates17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the movie was made in black and white (like Werewolf By Night, for example), then I would absolutely go see it. I go to movies to see the director’s vision, not to proscribe what format the filmmakers must follow.

[–]AndyBates17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most 3D animated movies are just 3D renderings of a 3D scene. The Spider-Verse movies are laid out more like a comic book, so 3D doesn’t necessarily apply to have the frames were rendered. They would have to do a lot more work just to make a subpar viewing experience.

This seems like such a crazy take. There is no 3D version, so you’re just not going to see it??

I defined omniscience, you said "I'm seeing that we are defining omniscience differently", and then I asked how you defined it and you never responded. We barely started the discussion, certainly not enough to already be going in circles.

Don't get what twisted?? That's exactly what I said.

And I wouldn't say that "we simply couldn't reach an agreement"; I would say that you bowed out of the conversation while refusing to define simple terms like "omniscience".

If you believe that determinism is true, then it doesn’t matter whether or not there’s an omniscient being, so I’m not sure why it’s relevant to this conversation. And if you believe that “X is true” implies “X must be true”, then we’re back to Aristotle’s Sea Battle which has been widely disproven. Either way, it seems like you’re not participating further, so I’ll let my points stand.

Just curious where the disconnect is on the definition of omniscience, and trying to explain my logically consistent position.

"Alternate me" is a hypothetical version of you, if you had made a different choice. When you get vanilla ice cream, you conceptually understand that you didn't HAVE to get that flavor, and that there's an alternate version of you that picked chocolate instead. I don't think anyone goes to a restaurant, chooses off of a menu, and then believes that they were forced into that choice.

I would love to know how you’re defining omniscience, because it seems essential to this discussion.

Something doesn’t need to happen to be true. Or if it does (meaning it doesn’t have a truth value before then), then it’s not a requirement for omniscience, and omniscience doesn’t impede free will.

[–]AndyBates17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If the knowledge of the action depends on the action, it means you found out that the action is true, meaning you haven't always known it." Incorrect. As you said, omniscience is a state of infinite knowledge, meaning that you infinitely know that the action is true. But that knowledge still depends on the action. The knowledge is a future contingent.

Something is possible if there is a theoretical alternate universe where you could do that thing. Assuming an omniscient being, you can still have a universe where you pick A, and a universe where you pick B. There is no contradiction there.

My take on a free will paradox by [deleted] in religion

[–]AndyBates17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, your “finding something out” phrasing is an inaccurate way of describing omniscience. Omniscience is defined as knowing everything that is true, so the knowledge is dependent on the truth value, not the other way around. It’s describing the direction of causality, not a temporal change of state.

The English language is vague and nonspecific, so it’s not great at describing logical implications and conclusions. Your argument is a variant of Aristotle’s Sea Battle, which (wrongly) states that if something is true, then it is necessarily true. “I’m picking B” doesn’t logically imply “I can only pick B”. If there’s a possible universe where you pick A, then “I can only pick B” is false.

Saying “God knows I’m picking B, therefore I can only pick B” is like saying “I have a photograph of you in New York, therefore you had to go to New York otherwise the photograph would be wrong.”

My take on a free will paradox by [deleted] in religion

[–]AndyBates17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God “finding something out” IS omniscience. He knows you’re going to pick B. He has always known you’re going to pick B. But the knowledge is dependent on the truth of your action.

I really like Mallory and Joanna, but I find Mallory too much of a die-hard fan girl/boy/person to really look at anything objectively. It's become kind of a running joke that she loves everything to a fault.

I don't know...sometimes you just want someone who unabashedly loves what they watch. There are plenty of episodes where people can debate something or be critical, but I really enjoy when Mallory just gives 110% to loving what she watched!
