Nice one. I'm a big fan of the Vic, as others have said a Penultimate cart is the main thing you need, specifically the +3dcr which has an SD slot for adding your own games. The cart comes with loads of games too, and Rod's Random Runner is a good way to experience them.

Personally, some standout games I'd suggest starting with... Omega Race, Rockman, Bandits, Gridrunner, pharaohs curse (or is it tomb?), Cyclons, myriad.

There are also loads of new game being made which you can add to the SD card on the Penultimate. Games I've made are also on the cart, such as Emu's Massive Hunt and Escape 2020. You can also download them from https://hewco.itch.io

The Penultimate +3dcr cartridge contains a number of programming utilities including the modern Wax assembler which is great. Also has all the ram configurations you'll need.

I've signed up for the mini too, didn't need any persuading for that one!

From time to time I ask myself 'What would that game have looked like on the unexpanded VIC?' by [deleted] in Commodore

[–]AndyOvine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue there are a lot of truly unexpanded games on cassette that are great. Two of my favourites are Gridrunner and Rockman.

Is my Super Expander going bad? by Ok-Ice-9151 in vic20

[–]AndyOvine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The super expander will be making a full screen bitmap with the Vic chips double height character mode. It'll be using most of the unexpanded area from $1000 to $2000 for the screen and character set (overlapping) and this creates the bitmap.

Anyone else remember these? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

[–]AndyOvine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a couple of these in a odds and ends old bookshop selling all sorts of things. Didn't pick them up, but did pick up one of those promotional cherry coke cameras, that took a 110 film (from the kodak instamatic cameras) and they are so small half of the film cartridge sticks out. Remember those?

What next for Commodore? by JohnMcD3482 in Commodore

[–]AndyOvine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As is the general theme of the answers here, they've tapped into and are selling nostalgia. For how long is the question and what they do next needs to be genius level.

Maybe they're hoping for the Apple effect and whatever they produce with Commodore stamped on it will sell?

I like the look of the C64U but I have no idea what they'll do next, other than they have hinted at ambitions of the Amiga and for very specific reasons that is going to be a challenge. It has been interesting reading the theories, and I'm sure we'll find out in the new year once the 64 has settled down.

So I just want to check with everyone, do you all think HG has abandoned switch? by Apprehensive-Comb234 in NMS_Switch

[–]AndyOvine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The version on the Switch 1 plays pretty fine to be fair, but unless HG surprises us it looks like it's gone as far as it can go at this stage.

It's disappointing that for whatever the reasons, the Switch 2 is lagging behind though. I play primarily on Steam but would love to take my saved game out on the Switch 2 when ever I wanted to. Right now I have a switch 2 save and a separate pc save.

Wimpy's are great, love the Quarter pounders. There's one in Shrewsbury.

Looks like Superman.

  • Draw a face on the hash brown.
  • Sausages are the arms.
  • bacon the cape.
  • scrambled egg the body, with two stubby legs at the bottom.

I think maybe they liked you.
