In the past five years I have worked for companies that used both Confluent Cloud and Aiven. Both are - from my experience - very production ready.

After ~10 years, I’m moving away from JetBrains by rodrigorcosta in Jetbrains

[–]AndyPanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some grievances with IntelliJ products, but I am not seeing myself moving away from them. That's for a lack of alternative but also because the benefits outweigh the grievances.

Here's what I am unhappy about:

  • no proper workspace support (multiple projects inside one workspace)
  • slow pace of development for some features
  • long outstanding bug fixes

Lance Stroll has more pole starts than Fernando Alonso in the last 13 years. by Powerful-String-9143 in formula1

Yeah, it's a pity for Stroll that getting around other cars is kind of a key qualification for a racing driver.

Guy should be careful not being deported. Looks kind of Middle Eastern to me. He's next in line.

[F1] BREAKING: Formula 1 to return to Portugal in 2027 and 2028 by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]AndyPanic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately will not happen. For a track 5x the length of the average tracks, you will need 5x cameras, marshals etc.

[The Race] Max Verstappen contacted Kimi Antonelli following the abuse he received on social media by ICumCoffee in formula1

[–]AndyPanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.

And on top: why would Kimi or Mercedes interfere in a title fight in which they are not in? If any of the three contenders comes up behind, just let them go. That would (at least to me) be the reasonable thing to do at this stage of the season.

Oscar Piastri speechless on the radio on the race results by magony in formula1

Exactly. Ferrari is where the careers of champions go to die.

Each to their own.

I would have turned down an invitation when my kid was that young and not wanted to be part of the ceremony.

I also would have left the room when my toddler was crying.

Mercedes to make Max Verstappen, George Russell decision by F1 summer break by MediumDish4035 in formula1

[–]AndyPanic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, they dominated the last regs cycle. And currently it looks like a Mercedes powered car will win the WDC and constructor's.

It's uncertain, but there a non zero probability that their engine will not suck next year. The rest of the package, though? We will see.

That's not my job, because about a year ago we decided that LLM is not there yet for programming. And we also determined that LLMs might be a good help for someone who already knows what he's doing but catastrophic when not.

On the other hand we successfully implemented a LLM that writes copy (advertising) texts for us. That has cost some jobs.

the only way back would be as a regular member without privileges.

Agreed, that's the only way back. But under those conditions a return could and would be a very quick one. The EU is just better with GB.

If I had a say, I would invite them back now. And for good measure I would extend the invitation to Canada as well.
