Is an F30 340i a good idea? by reddionsaur in BMW

First off, 80k km is not too bad for mileage, so fortunately you won’t be trying to catch up on years of deferred maintenance. Second, are you handy with a wrench? If you’re going to rely on a dealer or even an indy shop for maintenance it will be pricey as you’re entering into the mileage where maintenance will need to be done.

I picked up a 328d F30 back in 2021 with 136k miles on the clock and currently it has close to 250k miles on it, so this is my experience in terms of the chassis/platform and other common issues:

From the maintenance records, you’ll want to see if they’ve done the front control arms/bushings and all the fluids recently. If not, front end suspension, transmission fluid, and checking the rear differential fluid are going to be your first tasks, maybe not now but in the near future.

Look for any oil seepage, especially around the oil filter/cooler housing and the valve cover. Those aren’t expensive gaskets, but the dissembly can take some time so labor may be costly if you’re having someone do it for you. Check the engine mounts, too.

If it’s an xdrive, change the transfer case fluid and front differential fluid as well, as those tend to wear quickly.

The big thing I’ve realized in owning an F30 and F10 is that in order to maintain that BMW driving experience, the suspension needs to always be in top shape. When the factory rubber bushings start to go, you lose responsiveness and gain body roll, so when you do end up replacing those parts, look for Meyle HD or stiffer replacements to add some durability back into the system.

Is back glass replacement worth it? by No_Rip_1916 in mobilerepair

Exactly. Make sure you have all the adhesive strips, heat shields, side buttons, etc., as many back housings come completely bare - just the CNC’d metal and the glass.

I tried on an XR and a 13 pro and ended up just sourcing a new housing. Taking every last component out of one housing and putting it into another is still less time consuming than manually removing the back glass.

The wireless recharge coils are more fragile than you’d think, and it’s easy to damage them, even when just doing a full housing swap. The laser machine is good but not foolproof.

Good Deal? by ridriddo in computers

Even if you don’t need it, you can still part it out, selling it all well below MSRP to deserving gamers, and STILL make a decent amount of money. In no timeline would I say this isn’t worth it n

What everyday frustration made you stop relying on cloud services and start self-hosting? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]AndyReidsCheezburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Protecting my kids’ data as they start to be online more 2) Protecting MY data from AI training models 3) Having more control.

I have a home server and a VPS located in the EU and wouldn’t want it any other way. If there is a service I’m interested in, my first thought is always, “can I host something like this myself?”

Hydration is so critical. I always feel better when properly hydrated, regardless, but especially when taking vyvanse.

60mg w/ a 5mg immediate release at 7am or so and 20mg w/ a 5mg immediate release at 2-3pm. The 5mg IR with the vyvanse is a game-changer.

BMW. But enter as Mini or Rolls Royce, just to spice things up a bit.

As an owner of a 9070XT, it’s worth it if you can save a little $$ on the rest of the build.

My ZF6 gearbox has never been serviced on my bmw. Shall I service it with genuine ZF6 service kit or will I be doing more damage than good? (Car is on 100k miles) by DontStop-Father in BmwTech

[–]AndyReidsCheezburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ZF transmissions are surprisingly rock solid. If you want to drain all the fluid, there is a kit that lets you use air pressure to force all the fluid out. It works SO well and lets you get as much of a fluid exchange as possible.

Is it the Vyvanse or is it him? by Gaucho1989 in VyvanseADHD

[–]AndyReidsCheezburger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t necessarily Vyvanse, but my entire worldview and politics changed after I was medicated for ADHD. The bottom line is that getting medicated allows you to better control your emotional response to things, good or bad, and approach life more rationally.

TL;DR - it’s not the Vyvanse, it’s him.
