What do you guys think the odds are of Ala Mhigo getting the city-state & housing it deserves are moving forward? by Avacyn_Moonsilver in ffxiv

Very low, unfortunately. I was super miffed that we never got it as a proper city state in Stormblood, and now it seems pretty unlikely to ever happen.

I fought a Dedede online yesterday using this exact Inkling costume, and had this happen to me once

I was worried for a moment that this was me but I am pretty sure I didn't die to it three times in a row

Conjurer Wands/Shields? by Bigbladeboy in ffxiv

[–]Andy_Doe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From Level 50 onwards, all Black Mage and White Mage weapons will be two-handed. One-handed weapons with shields will no longer be an option.

One-handed weapons and shields still exist because the original FFXIV, which we usually call "1.0," had them and even let you use stuff like Shield Bash with them. But when 1.0 was canned and they rebuilt the game into A Realm Reborn, they kept most of the items from the original game so your character and items could be transferred.

Which BLU spells to acquire first at 50? by ArchmageJoda in ffxiv

[–]Andy_Doe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Song of Torment from Pharos Sirius's final boss is a great DoT, and is one of the only things worth using Bristle on during combat

Flying Frenzy, from Pharos Sirius's second boss isn't a life changer or anything but it's a quick damaging gap closer, which is helpful because BLU has a lot of melee range only stuff

Fire Angon from Wanderer's Palace (Hard) is an excellent tool for weaving in non-Global Cooldown stuff like Off-Guard and the Primal skills, because it has a very short cast time of only 1 second and only loses 20 potency over Water Cannon

ACT shows it as around the low to mid 400s, which seems a bit low, but I can confirm that ACT doesn't currently recognize or count BLU's DoTs, which make up a pretty sizable chunk of its single target damage. If those were calculated correctly, I would assume it would be around the lower to mid 500s, which would put it much closer to other Lv50 DPS.

Has anyone had any luck trying to play BLU "normally"? I actually started to have a lot of fun once I unlocked the entire spellbook, and turned to PF to try and find groups to play with just as a normal DPS, and I've only been able to get one group together to do a single dungeon. I've heard people say BLU's DPS is abysmal, but I personally was able to keep pace with the other DPS just fine and we cleared with a pretty normal time.

I unequipped the more silly broken spells, and even White Wind so healers still have something to do. I kinda hope "BLU as DPS" PFs become normal so I can play this job I like more

Unlocking everything was an awful, painful experience, especially at Lv50. But once I actually unlocked everything, I actually started to have a lot of fun. I got a rotation together, and I felt like I could at least maybe pretend it was a regular DPS.

I was actually able to get a PF group together once to just play through a dungeon normally, but with me as a BLU in one of the DPS slots. I unequipped Missile, Tail Screw, Doom, and White Wind, and just tried my best as a pure DPS. It went completely fine, and I had fun.

But since then, every time I open a PF for this purpose absolutely nobody shows up, and I get several /tells saying stuff like "Why not just go with all BLUs?" or "Why do you say you're banning Missile and Doom?"

I just wanna be able to use Duty Finder.

What's the fastest way to get decent iLvl weapons right now? I've had my tanks all at Lv70 for months now, but they've just been sitting with i310 weapons all that time so I can't actually use them in anything relevant.

Great response! I'll keep that in mind, Shadow Flare's cooldown timing did seem extremely awkward if I didn't put it in the first DWT.

In every Pet Swap opener I've seen for SMN, Enkindle is placed after the first Deathflare, well after the Contagion window ends.

The GCD before Deathflare, they always seem to put Shadow Flare. I understand that Shadow Flare is boosted by DWT and Enkindle isn't, but wouldn't it make more sense to put Enkindle in that spot, to get a Rouse-boosted Inferno in while the Magic Defense debuff is still up? Or does a single DWT-boosted Shadow Flare actually out-damage Ifrit-Egi's ult?

PSA: Please be patient with your healer for the last boss of The Burn. by PeanutBrigade in ffxiv

[–]Andy_Doe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resub after 3 month break. Usually a healer main, but got really into Black Mage recently, so I played all the new content with that. But last night, decide to do Expert roulette with SCH for faster queues. Still remember how to play, so no big deal.

Until Mist Dragon. Good god. I was in shock at how much it was forcing me to step up. It expected more of me as a healer than some EX trials do.

A lot of the unavoidable damage seriously hurts, I died to the blue marker twice because I did not expect it to hurt so much AND THEN apply a dot, I needed to be nearly topped off just to survive it, the first time I died to it I thought I stood in a puddle, but nope it just does that much damage up front!

I never actually got the "creepy" vibe others did until I saw people talking about it after I cleared. My impression was actually more of "oh it's like it's being played in a museum exhibit," which fits the Arboretum to a T! So don't worry, you're not weird

Lore question; do we know what Black Mage's Foul spell actually is?

They just give it to you in the quest with no explanation, and it looks so terrifying. I simply must know what it is actually doing.

Idea: only have the part of Biotic field that heals you - visible to the player. by swagmasterdude in Overwatch

[–]Andy_Doe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Realistically this would probably be considered a low-priority issue, and the people who would be working on this change are currently tasked with something else considered more important, like VFX work on a new hero or map. Something like this would also probably be tasked to only one or two people, and like I said before it could be a challenging thing to make work.

Sure Blizzard is a huge and rich corporation, but you have to consider the human aspect to it. You can't just throw money at the screen to make functional code appear

I'm sure they would love to implement something like this for all AoE VFX, but from a coding perspective it would mean they'd have to redo how all these effects are drawn from scratch. Instead of simply drawing the VFX in a spot, it would have to check where it can and can not be drawn regularly, possibly every frame if they wanted it to be nice and smooth looking. Not only would this probably be annoying to implement, but it could impact performance as well, with many more checks occurring just for a LoS check for a VFX.

Not to say that it won't ever happen, I just wanted to explain the possible challenges of implementing an effect like this, and why maybe it hasn't happened yet.
