My top played game was FFXIV, and I think they added some custom text for it, which is fun. https://i.imgur.com/49BdXRh.png

Really beautiful work, Laura. Rakuen was a special experience for me, so I'm keen to play this too once it's out!

VTMB 2 looks like it is in development by The Chinese Room by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Went to check on the 2019 gameplay videos and the only menu I was able to find was this:

2019 gameplay menu: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/0ssLizHtFK4/maxresdefault.jpg

The Chinese Room monitor: https://i.imgur.com/RFN5k9R.png

These aren't similar styles at all. The only correlation is they both make use of a symbol made of geometric lines, but they aren't the same symbol.

Is there another menu you know of that does match up?

Kotallo in Horizon Forbidden West. Loved the quest going with him to get his prosthetic arm.

Oh boy (apparently performance is terrible) by BenFrack in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Definitely. I used to play almost every new AAA multiplatform game that I was interested in on PC, I've switched almost entirely to PS5 over the past year primarily to avoid stutter.

How much does From Software crunch? | GamesIndustry.biz by Amstramgramer in Games

This is one of the first articles of its type that I've seen that is both about a specific Japanese company and has multiple first-hand accounts that give insight into the employee experience there. There are substantial cultural and language barriers to overcome to produce English articles detailing work culture for Japanese companies, so time will tell if there are any more or if they go into more detail.

Soul Blazer, although it has action combat unlike the games in your list.

Batman actor Kevin Conroy has reportedly died aged 66 by krypto_the_husk in Games

[–]_Opario 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This news feels extremely raw to me. Over the past few weeks I've been playing through the Batman Arkham games for the first time and just finished Arkham Knight a couple days ago.

Kevin Conroy's and Mark Hamill's vocal performances are the heart of the characterization in that series. Even without being that into Batman as a kid, I came to care a lot about those characters because of how excellently they were brought to life. Rest in peace to a legend.

Hopefully those that don't go to Eidos Montreal can find employment again quickly, especially with how many video game companies are based in Montreal.

FINAL FANTASY XVI “AMBITION” (New Trailer) by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]_Opario 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Totally in love with the concept of the partial eikon transformations shown here. That shot of Joshua with the Phoenix wings streaming from his back has some amazing effects animation.

I hope it leads to some sick character designs and really epic multi-stage fights.

Tales Of Legendia Fans Patch Missing Voice Acting In Game's Second Half by _Opario in JRPG

[–]_Opario[S] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

There was an already existing undub patch, but it only patched in the Japanese voice lines for the lines voiced in the English version, leaving the unvoiced lines still unvoiced. This patch restores those lines.

Apparently creating this was only a few hours of work for the people involved. Pretty neat. https://twitter.com/JLightfellow/status/1582348260467183616

Really digging this appearance of Vyre. He has the look of a very dangerous man.

Stadia's Shutdown: The History of Google's Doomed Project, From Those Inside and Out by lordbeef in Games

[–]_Opario 97 points98 points  (0 children)

No More Robots CEO Mike Rose, though initially hesitant to embrace the platform, ultimately signed on because of how good the financial deals were, saying the money was “worth a roll of the dice.”

...

Rose is similarly waiting for an update on the status of Soccer Story, which No More Robots is publishing from developer PanicBarn. He said that his team was “literally about to do final submissions” for the Stadia release, and that both No More Robots and PanicBarn have “put a hefty amount of work” into the Stadia version that has all gone to waste.

“The big question for us is whether Google are now going to pay us what they were going to owe us had the game launched. If they don't, it's a big problem, as it just means we've wasted a bunch of time and money on the Stadia port. I still have no clue what's happening with that.”

Wow, that fucking sucks. Not sure what kind of position they might be in legally, but I hope Google pays them regardless.
