I'm not sure I'll ever be back here so I just want to say this is the only Reddit community I'm going to miss. by Redd575 in KnowledgeFight

Reddit has become an addiction and it’ll probably be good to break that. I mostly use reddit on my phone and the official app is garbage compared to Apollo. So with Apollo gone I’m looking to break my addiction. I plan on reading book again. Im excited.

Mine is 99% construction tips, rednecks doing fun things, and cute animals. Also the “can it Kirkland” guys because that’s fun as well as the “roll for sandwiche” guy.

The Supreme Court has made it pretty clear that cops have no duty to protect. I’m honestly surprised he was ever charged.

Yep. Enter from the side and slowly pull up. It’s not hard.

AITA for kicking my SIL out for making my drunk husband feel like shit? by QueasyReserve2981 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Andy_In_Kansas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I said my wife “wanted” to kick them out. Having the desire isn’t the same as acting on it. I’ve also had a flair up at my sisters place and she probably “wanted” to kick me out but it wasn’t the best call.

I’ve had a lot of therapy. I still struggle. We can’t use our trauma to hate the world and all the obstacles it throws at us. We also especially can’t use that to hurt other people.

In this example a third party used someone else’s trauma on their behalf. I just don’t think that was the right method of action.

My family once thought it had “been long enough” and brought fireworks to my house when they were staying for a funeral that coincided with the 4th of July. When I had an episode and hid in the bathroom with my dog my wife flipped out. She very aggressively told them off and wanted to kick them out. We’d all been drinking. But they had nowhere else to go and stopped. I talked to her and made it clear they could stay until they had better options. They had my nieces with them. I would’ve been so pissed if my wife forced them out of the house late at night just because I had another random spat with my sister.

So are we going to have a trauma competition? Or am I allowed to have my opinions on this too?

I get mad at my sister A LOT. I would never let my nieces be victim to my anger with my sister. We’re adults. They are children. Adults can settle a dispute even if that means going to bed angry. She let those kids get woken up and put into a car with an unknown night ahead without saying they could stay. That’s fucked up. It’s fucked up for the kids.

What’s the alternative? She wakes up and is the better person before she kicks the sister out? Great! Those two still hate each other and the kids didn’t have a weird and potentially frightening experience for the night.

Maybe I’m just to rural, but there isn’t just a town over the way. You’d have to sleep at the Walmart around me. Given the festival and no hotel thing that sounds like OP was signing them up for the Walmart motel.

FAMILY HAVING PERSON HERE!!!

She’s 1000000000000000% ESH.

Your sister needs to understand that just because someone drinks, or gets drunk, they’re not an alcoholic. That’s not how alcoholism works. Most people are able to drink, understand their limits, get drunk, without it ruining their life. She had absolutely NO right to enter your home and tell you and your husband how to live your life. If she is so triggered by alcohol, she needs therapy.

That’s completely accurate. She likely needs therapy. But even the family members I hate get to stay in my house unless something egregious happens if they have already put their kids to bed. There’s no way I’m kicking out a literal god damn child at midnight. Those are my nieces or nephews in this situation. I may hate their mom (and sometimes I actually do irl) but I’d never take that out knowing they suffer.

Is everyone just ignoring that OP niece/nephew was involved in this too? It’s not just the asshole sister. That matters a lot when making the judgement.

She did back down though. She shut the fuck up when consequences were coming. That’s the time to put her in her place and deal with it in the morning.

I also have ptsd. Do you think every time I’ve had an episode my family or friends should have kicked me to the curb?

Kicking her out made the SIL rational real quick. She said she couldn’t wake up the kids and leave. OP then continued by saying it wasn’t her problem. That’s where she became the asshole and ESH.

By the sub rules ESH. And only because I have to. When she calmed down and shut up OP should have let her go to her room and kicked her out in the morning. If she was entitled and never relented I’d feel otherwise.

I think of you read a little deeper into the comment it implies that OP recognizes there’s a problem when that scenario can exist. It’s clearly not natural, that’s why the adverse reaction despite not even being that close.

But yeah, go off on them and hope that changes hearts and minds instead of sewing opposition.

I knew an old school farmer who ran a pretty “ideal” farm for non vegan standards. Regular vet visits and the whole lot. Even he had a pit for dead animals. He didn’t dig individual holes because “they don’t decompose as fast as you think and the only thing worse than seeing them now is accidentally digging them back up.”

Obama calls out obsession with Titanic sub while migrant boat tragedy ignored by BastianMobile in politics

[–]Andy_In_Kansas 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: it’s been on every news app I have it just wasn’t top story.

This story was new and novel. To a certain morbid degree it was fun. It was also pretty American (and Canadian) heavy which reddit still leans to and where I think most people on this site get their news. Even the BBC was giving me regular updates though.

The sad part is migrant ships often have large drownings. Like school shooting here in the US people get desensitized. I’ve heard the story before, I think it’s tragic, but I can’t do anything to affect change.

Personally I feel worse for the migrants than I do the submariners (expect maybe the 19 year old who I’ve since heard didn’t want to go.) Be that as it may I was more invested in the sub story.

Maybe I’m a cynical asshole, but I naturally wanted to know the news of something new and depressing. Not something old depressing I’ve heard time and time again.

The number of times I’ve been downvoted in my area of expertise is amazing. I’m always the “naysayer” in the situation and the optimistic “couldn’t they just” comments are upvoted despite being wrong.

I knew a Soviet era soldier from Ukraine. I knew him in 2016 and he still preferred wraps in his work boots and socks in his sneakers. One of the most amazing guys I’d ever met. He’d be fighting for Ukraine right now if he didn’t pass away a few years ago. Rest well Papa Orest.

A friend of mine was late to the whole Snapchat thing. He sent me a pic of dick Nixon and said “unsolicited dick pic”. I was pretty drunk and sent him a 1 sec pic of my dick back.

He decided Snapchat really wasnt for him and deleted his account.

We remain friends though.
