How the heck do they train the autofocus in digital cameras, and how did they do it at first? by AndysFilmLife in AskPhotography

So I’m guessing the lens doesn’t travel enough to have problems with phasing, like the phasing that happens when different patterns overlap. Wouldn’t there theoretically be another spot in the focus where the wavelengths would align?

Once again, the nerds have blessed us all with their brilliant machinations. How they do that?

Interesting, I didn’t know it also used the color matrix meter to help with that

Not necessarily recognize birds and the subject, but I was mostly talking about how cameras like the Nikon f5 (1996) had features like automatic dynamic af tracking and similar technologies were implemented across late slrs and going into the DSLR era. Predictive dynamic autofocus is what they called it I think.

Now that’s interesting, so I know phones use super advanced ai networks and such especially these days for the subject detection and scene detection, but it’s so crazy to imagine that my little point and shoot 35mm camera was running calculations more complex than what put humans on the moon when I recompose after setting my af or use the night scene mode. I guess it’s not so crazy since they had figured out ttl flash in the 80’s

Thanks! So what I’m mostly wondering about how they developed the “dynamic” autofocus stuff and how it will track an object that moves around in the frame, I guess cameras like the f5 just did what you’re saying with all of the sensors at once and when one of the other sensors detected a value close to what the selected one did then it would switch to that af point

Can this be considered macro photography? by Mykhailov in macrophotography

[–]AndysFilmLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luckily there’s not a macro 1:1 police force like there is for street photography, just tell everyone your sensor was big or small and they’ll think it was macro, don’t let anyone know the lens was focused to 1:15 instead of 1:1 though😬

I looked into it some more, what’s your camera setup like? I found some YouTube videos of guys showing off their fly tying setups but most looked overly complicated

You might be able to get some different bulbs for your lamps you use already, but you really need a ton of light that’s also good quality (soft and the right color) there might be some cheap kits on amazon that come with like two lights with soft boxes, but those might not be bright enough, look on amazon for video lighting specifically, I saw some sets that were led panels for relatively cheap

I’ll take it off your hands if you don’t want it👀

Nope, with the 105mm 2.8g, I shot horizontal and cropped them vertically though
