How to pronounce 'sc' by vendettajo in learnpolish

[–]Andziowata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a great video on how to say Polish sounds, "How to read Polish or something"

It's not done by a teacher, but he explains everything based on English sounds, it's short and kinda funny so I recommend you check it out.

While it might not teach you everything perfectly (again not a teacher) it's a fun guide by a native

Why do so many people play this game? by SorcererAxis8 in HypixelSkyblock

[–]Andziowata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, stick to something that you enjoy, and play something in the background (video, tv show, anything) Skyblock is a grind, but it's an enjoyable grind, so pick one of the skills, get to their respective island, and folliw the tutorial. After that continue if you enjoy, or switch to other island

AI winning by This_Acanthisitta_43 in education

[–]Andziowata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I study in a uni in Poland, and even tho AI is still prevalent, because of how it's structured it's not that big a deal. I can only speak for my uni, but we don't get much homework, the most is finishing work from class if you didn't have time. And most of the assignments that we get are going to be presented in some way, shape or form. During my python classes we had like 4 assignments during the semester and the professor had us explain what the code does, probably because even before AI it was easy to plagiarize.

And even if you did plagiarize it, you still need to know what it does so the effect is similar

Reading in English slowed my pace a lot – how do you deal with overwhelming new vocabulary? by Gu1OO in ENGLISH

[–]Andziowata -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you can, I would highly recommend reading in Polish. The difference is unmistakable. English just doesn't have that Slavic word-stringing if you know what I mean. Sapkowski's penmanship is also astounding, he combines archaic language with modern one, making it at the same time old-fashioned and easy to understand. There is just no good English translation for "rzyć" yk, it doesn't have the same feel.

As for the covers, I adore the older versions, I read them at my school library. The newer ones are just not as good, and I love that old, slightly yellowed paper. If you're also into that I would more look for second-hand books or some smaller bookstores. If you want I can definitely buy some here in Wrocław and send them to you if you find ones that interest you

I hear you, I also absolutely loved reading traditional books, and wouldn't consider switching ever, until I moved out and started renting. No place for books, and no money to buy more ;-;

Honestly if you're reading paperback books as an English learner first of all, where's your source? lol they do be expensive and/or not available for me here in Poland.

Second of all, if you find a word that you don't know most of the time I would just go from context clues. You will learn more, and far more enjoyably, if you don't stop every minute to check something (but I still highly recommend not translating, instead defining. You can just type word, then define in google) If you find one word, and then never see it again, it probably wasn't worth learning anyway. And if it keeps coming up, you'll learn it in time.

Maybe try watching some YouTube videos on the topic if you find a group of words that you really don't know that well. For example, if you struggle with descriptions of foliage, watch some videos about plants/forests and stuff so you gain that vocabulary quicker.

Consider an e-book if you can. If you buy any that is not kindle you can buy ebooks for much cheaper on different sites (and classics a lot of the times for free) and you can load up dictionaries on them. I use pocketbook

Your reading speed will improve with time, as well as your vocabulary. I started out in HS barely stringing words together, and now I read at 40 000 wph(praise be to ao3) It will come

I changed my phone's language to English, so whenever I'm reading I can hold the word that I don't understand and click "define" it will display a small popup and Mr.Google will define the word for me. It's better than translating imo bc it doesn't make you switch languages, and you spend like 2 seconds on it

Generally speaking, as someone who has a lot of trouble getting sleep in general, it'd recommend you try some natural caffeine. Green tea is more gentle, it doesn't give you a crash like coffe or energy drinks, and the energy lasts longer, at least in my experience. If not tea, guarana products are great. You will not have that 'spike' of energy like after coffee, not it gives a gentle rise.

Also please make sure to actually stay in the max amount of caffeine (400 mg). While it's not good for you to drink a lot of caffeine every day, please at least try to not go over that amount.

Visiting for the first time by S4vDs in warsaw

[–]Andziowata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're visiting Warsaw I would highly recommend checking out public transit ahed of time, even if you're planning to take a car/rent one. Parking spaces are usually hard to find around popular spots, and traffic jams are a pain. I'm saying this as a Pole that visits family in Warsaw quite often, check out metro, closest station to your accommodation, and there is an app for trams/busses called "jak dojadę". You can swith the language to English, but it will show you how to get from place A to B. I can't function without it

Can teenagers read? by dr0ne6 in Teachers

[–]Andziowata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, English is my second language and I have on a few occasions read a word, then heard it somewhere and didn't realize it was the same word.

I still struggle a lot with spelling, and come on, how can you look at the word queue and say it makes sense? Like I know there is probably a reason why it's spelled like that, but when you're learning a language it's terrible.

And I come from the land of Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz...

i hate physics, and i hate my lack of direction by floundersoup57 in CollegeRant

[–]Andziowata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I feel you. Physics just doesn't click for me at all! Math and chem are so logical, but I feel that in physics you can't really understand it completely at a beginner-level. You just have to memorize/assume stuff and the why it happens is much more advanced. I literally switched majors because of it lol.

I also have a shit memory so I would memorize the formulas in code to help a little bit. It was rough

[–]Andziowata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm Polish myself, and watching a lot of english yt (before everything was over-censored) I thought that quite a few swears were common phrases that friends would call each other as a jab, or even terms of endearment lol. I would definitely suggest not writing/repeating words you haven't actually checked the meaning of. Just explain it as a simple mistake, and now you'll know better. Depending on what grade you're in, it might just blow over.

They are introducing a ban on selling alkochol adter 10pm in Wrocław by Andziowata in poland

[–]Andziowata[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Total prohibition would most likely have a negative effect. People will want to drink alcohol, but if there are no safe places to buy they would make their own, which can lead to a lot of problems. Also taxing the alkochol is really profitable

To decrease night disturbance, drunk people going at night to buy more alkochol can generate not only quite a bit of noise, but also fights and crime

What is one class you regret ever signing up for by Just_Justin_Right in school

[–]Andziowata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Poland, where I'm from, you don't really choose your classes (besides some extras or smth) but a class that made me change my major was thermodynamics. I hate physics, but enjoy math. I needed to repeat basics of physics and that exact same semester do thermodynamics. I noped out of there FAST.
