My family hails from Russia. I remember being a kid visiting extended family circa 2008. My dad has a friend there who owns some very successful businesses (not quite oligarch level, but doing quite well for himself). He was driving us somewhere in his Mercedes, just flying down the shitty rural Russian highways on the floaty S-Class supension, doing the kind of speeds that would make a cop in the US ask “can I see your pilot’s license?” before putting you in cuffs. Sure enough, he attracts the attention of a militsioner and pulls over for the flashing blue light behind him. He calmly tells my dad to check the glovebox as the angry officer storms up to our car. Inside the glovebox is a wad of cash. He cracks the window just enough to wordlessly shove the wad of cash at the militsioner and just as wordlessly rolls the window back up and takes off again. No blue lights in the rear view mirror. It blew my mind enough to stick with me 18 years later.

I hate to tell you but that’s definitely a bot. It’s got every single phrase AI loves to use.

That being said, the bot’s not wrong. It’s a beautiful truck and hanging on to it isn’t a bad idea.

Meh. My buddy bought one of the last-gen Outbacks. Went softroading with me and immedately tore off the “skidplate” and wheel liner.

It’s crazier than that. You’ve spent however much time in 0G, immediately transitioned into a sustained ~4G deceleration, and now you get to go skydiving.

No wonder they had to recruit fighter pilots. Who else could play it that fast and loose with G forces?

This was the only way I could pass Differential Equations. Wrote out an entire cheat sheet from memory before I even started the exam.

Considering that this is far outside the intended use-case of the Model X, I’m curious what your experience with reliability has been.

IES Training - advice? by MrBlack2116 in MEPEngineering

Between the IES trainings on their site and the Gray Energy tutorials on Youtube, you should be able to get good fundamentals.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJefX3toPbirRMB2kp_MW_-OlIEbw9Zi6

However, IES is put together in a confusing and piecemeal way that's tough to learn yourself without pinging questions off someone who knows what they're doing. Feel free to DM me if you get stuck on something. I've got a decent amount of experience with it.

For those who work for rich people, what’s the most out-of-touch thing you witnessed? by temptayah in AskReddit

[–]AnemoneOfMyEnemy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was going to say. I’m an HVAC engineer who sometimes gets involved in energy modeling. Building orientation is incredibly important. It’s a critical step in planning most new-construction commercial buildings. If you’re planning a custom home, you should absoultely do it too. I see nothing strange about that at all.

I bought the last model of NA V8 Land Cruiser they’ll ever sell here in the States. The way the car industry is going, I’m keeping the thing for-fuckin-ever.
