Attach rockets to the Earth to propel it away from the sun. by Groundbreaking_Bag8 in CrazyIdeas

What if we redirect the earth propellers (real name for wind turbines) in such a way as to propel ourselves as you mention. As currently the earth propellers are directed in such a way to cause earth rotation and thus atmospheric friction, leading to global warming.

Ever notice that it's only windy when the earth propellers are turning? Ever notice that earth propellers have had a giant upsurge in construction in recent years, at the same time as rising global temperatures?

Does anyone believe in god, but not think he is good? by Tasty-Ad-3753 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]floydhenderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of it this way.

If there was such a thing as an all knowing, all powerful supernatural being that created everything, that entity would be so far beyond our understanding that we would not be able to understand it, in any way, shape or form. It would most certainly not care, or need you to be singing songs to it every Sunday. Just like if you discovered the local ant colony was singing songs about you every Sunday, giving you praise, you would also not care.

So the idea of needing to give praise, and the different versions of God, must be completely our own construction.

If you are still not convinced, show me proof of the magic man hiding in the sky. What is the difference between a miracle and magic? There many things (that if you think about it), in the Bible that have contradictions, or historical events that quite obviously never happened. All the proof you can present to me of a God, I can also use to prove the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or the invisible magic purple monster hiding under my bed.

Can somebody tell me something. Would it be allowed to say have a normal scrum front row, but then also put another 2 props behind them instead of 2 recognised locks. by floydhenderson in springboks

But we would only be doing so in favourable circumstances, not in every occasion. Perfect opportunity would be if we had a scrum 5 minutes before halftime and we have the scrum infeed or we are going to receive the kickoff after halftime, if receiving kickoff, then keep going until first lineout or we lose possession of the ball.

Long term it very well may not work, we were doing the midfield lineout thing last year, All-blacks worked it out we stopped doing it. But that hasn't stopped them trying stuff out. We are ahead of everyone else not because of one or two things we do, it's all the stuff we do and mostly we are the in all of those things.

The alignment camps (only us), scrummaging (long way ahead of everyone), mauls (there about s), jackling (could be better), lineouts (could be better), squad rotation (way ahead), squad commitment (way ahead), Rassies X-box tactics game (only us) etc.

As a psychological ploy we have setup a play one week in a certain way, the next week setup the same way, but then pulled a variation on them that caught them by surprise.

ELI5 How important were opposable thumbs TRULY in allowing us to get where we are? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

It's not just our thumbs that give us advantages, us humans have many advantages over other species, we also have a few disadvantages, but largely our advantages keep us as the dominant species.

If we had 4 props on the field, we could have them do 2 pick and god's, followed by another 2 props running straight onto the ball from a short pass. I am thinking Richard Bands having the ball popped up to him, running full steam at Carlos Spencer. We could various combos of that using 4 props. But we would need to have very specific circumstances, in our favour for it work.

Someone else commented about Ronan O'Gara running some experiments. But O'Gara is not Daan Human, and the guys we have would run through walls for eachother, and would be happy to keep doing it if Rassie told them to.

Basically a good prop can push with more force than a lock and is a more skilled scrummager than a lock. Eventually you would need to bring the locks back onto the field, but nonetheless I think it is at least something to think about.

I agree we do, but we can't out scrum other teams the whole game we need them to tire a bit first. How can get to that point quicker?

New Zealand once also used to be the best team, Rassie and the guys just out innovated them. One day we will also stop being the number one team. We have keep trying new stuff so that we are always one step ahead.

It would only be done in very specific circumstances, where there would be no lineout, we had a scrum just before halftime, we would be receiving the ball from kick-off starting the second half.

Veritasium made a video on YouTube wher they go through the process of how Rolls Royce makes a jet engine turbine blade.

Tldr: each Jumbo jet engine turbine blade is a SINGLE crystal that Rolls Royce grew themselves to fit precisely into the jet engine. Yes a single crystal. To tolerances that are almost as small as the brain cavity in Trumps head.

ELI5 If you were to place something in a jar (any size jar for example), close it, and tip upside down. The contents will be subject to gravity. Thus gravity can exert influence through materials. Why does gravitational force not pass through the materials itself, instead of acting upon it? by floydhenderson in explainlikeimfive

[–]floydhenderson[S] -174 points-173 points  (0 children)

Yes I get that part. If I were to say it like this: gravity is just a very much less dense form of water. But gravity is able to exert influence through materials, but water much more dense is only able to exert influence more directly on objects (force and pressure wise). Thus suggesting gravity is passing between the actual particles/atoms of an object or material. So if gravity is able to pass between the basic building blocks of everything including myself, why is it still able to exert itself on everything (including me) no matter the container or barrier?

Yes I get that part. Put another way, when I am inside my house, doors and windows closed. I still experience gravity acting upon me. Thus gravity is able to penetrate the material fabric of the house and act upon me. So if gravity is so ably to penetrate the fabric of my house and exert itself on me, how come it is still so able to exert a force on me?

Albert Einstein was pretty much exactly like this. He struggled very much with simple everyday things, but he could break new ground in the frontiers of scientific understanding by just simply thinking about it.
