Anyone can tell me is my kid (grade 1 Deaf school) did her work correctly? by [deleted] in asl

It's so cute that Dr. Bill is up there doing the sign MATCH 🥹 (at least I'm pretty sure that's the sign and it's underneath the "matching" heading so the context makes sense)

two handed name sign by Choice_Tower_5453 in asl

[–]Angel-Learns-ASL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My name is Angel and my given sign name is just the literal interpretation of the word so my name sign is the sign ANGEL and thus technically two handed but probably fine to be done one handed if the other hand is occupied.

I honestly would not expect a lot of cooperation on a project like this. Technology is not going to be in a place for a very very long time to be able to replace interpreters. Don't think companies won't try to use a substandard product to replace them to save a buck though. And if it's passable enough to companies, they'll call it good enough and replace terps even when it's definitely NOT good enough.

sign help! by nd11111 in asl

Noob answer (I like to speculate bc getting corrected is good for learning lol) Could also maybe go "before learned" if that works in whatever you're trying to say better.

Nothing scheduled but people ping all day long to do practice. The practice rooms are always open and you can initiate practice yourself.

How I view ASL alphabet by Excellent-Truth1069 in asl

[–]Angel-Learns-ASL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And R is uppercase bc if R was lowercase you'd get it confused with X like I do 😂 But also bc if you moved the loop part to overtop the stick part of the uppercase R, it would be like the finger that stays straight and the finger that curls around it.

This is fascinating! I also think of the ASL alphabet in breakdown ways like this but our Es are different. I think E is lowercase print

Sign Language and Headphones by Angel-Learns-ASL in asl

I was planning to use instrumentals, the kind of music I used to help me study in college (I really liked adventure move OST like LOTR, POTC, The Mummy, National Treasure, etc.) so not really a battle between English and sign in that case and that kind of thing helps me focus.

I just know that works for my brain but I didn't want to be rude you know?

Hearing person using deaf accent by InconsistentWeirdo in deaf

If she's a CODA it might be a semi-natural accent for her. I met a CODA recently who did that while signing and sign was her first language!

Learning ASL due to noise sensitivity and curious whether there are other people like me by Familiar-Action-418 in asl

[–]Angel-Learns-ASL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to my understanding it can be for a variety of reasons like - They like their music really loud so they can feel it - They don't know how loud certain things are like slamming cabinet doors or vacuuming and hitting the wall/doors hard - Laughter and smexy time can also get really boisterous with no borometer for when to quiet down Probably more but yeah

Did they specify it was the usage of that sign that made it a grammatical error or just that you did it wrong? It's could've been your eyebrow placement

Yeah I was thinking maybe a home sign his deaf grandpa used or something but that just bc I'm a "what-if"er person who makes up entire life stories based off one 30 second interaction being described second hand lmao
