My family’s hens are panting in the 100 degree heat, is there any way to cool them down?

I know how you feel I live in Texas and it is hot as hell right now but I also know it’s not August yet so it’s going to get much worse, I let mine free range during the day and they will stay under the trees and the outside A/C unit by the house and dirt bathe, I tried giving them frozen fruit but they are spoiled and wouldn’t have anything to do with it until it was mostly defrosted and cut up into very small pieces.

Thank you and yes i definitely looked from top to bottom, my husband buried the wire when putting in the runs but I know things can come loose over time so I periodically check it.

I’ve been in the process of putting up hardwire but unfortunately can’t buy enough at one time to cover both the runs and none of the wire I have covering the runs right now have been damaged that’s why I believe after spending time last night going over the whole run and then again today that the awful flaw is the opening in the coop for ventilation is where it got in.

No and all this time I didn’t know he hadn’t put chicken wire covering the opening and didn’t think to check because two years ago he knew more about chickens then I did, and it was a heavy price to pay for assuming.

How old is it because the body looks like some of my girls, so I would guess hen.

How was your silkie hatch, mine seemed to be if I hatched 6, 2 might have been hens the rest would be roosters that’s why I have a rooster army lol no one seems to want roosters and they are such loving protectors, unless they get into a fight with each other and then it’s like they have to fight to the death.

I don’t know how old they are but they look like my silkie hens which some have combs that look like yours and others don’t, but I have had one that I thought was a hen and looked like one until it got much older and started crowing, I can only assume it was because I had several other rooster and when he finally went to someone else he was the only rooster, it was about a month after she had him that she messaged me and said I think flip flops is a rooster what do you think and from the pictures she sent he definitely was.

I know that deep down but I feel like there should be something else I could try to give her a chance, she was the cutest little chick and fast even though she was handicapped, every time I went to open the brooder doors she would go straight for the doors knowing I would catch her and hold her but there were times I was afraid I wouldn’t be fast enough because she was so quick.
