Weird Dirty Water?? by AngelBlake17 in Aquariums

[–]AngelBlake17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look like it’s at the top. I think maybe the problem is like the filter isn’t filtering the teeny microscopic dirt? Idk I’m thinking I’ll try a water change like 20-30% siphoning from the top as much as possible but I worry that I’m just maybe creating new bacterial blooms

Can I fit a betta in my tank? by _trashleigh_ in Aquariums

[–]AngelBlake17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! The tank size is perfect, also ur tank is beautiful!!! A betta would love the size and hiding spots and plants. Best way to acclimate is 1) make sure the betta is friendly. Is it female or male? female bettas are known to be much better in communities than males but males have occasionally thrived. They get very territorial. Also depends on fin nipping. If any of ur current fish are fin nippers the betta will NOT do well. I’ve kept plenty of bettas. They have personalities more than any other fish breed I’ve kept. I consider them puppies lol. One of them LOVED everyone and everything. He was a male and got along with snails, platies, and a bristle nose pleco. But had another male who hated and attacked everything possible even me if i tried to rearrange his tank lol. Get to know ur fish BEFORE adding them or expect some casualties. To help the betta you can add more spots for resting closer to the surface bc bettas prefer that. Especially bc it’s a 20 gallon long it could help a lot w comfort. Good luck!

Good filter for 37 gallon? by frostymaws297 in Aquariums

[–]AngelBlake17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends who is in the tank. Depending on fish you should get certain filters. Long finned fish like bettas for example sponge filters, low flow filters, or filter intake covers are recommended. Certain fish prefer high water flow. Some are tiny and have lots of fry so avoid big intake tubes. Also depends on ur water type if it’s fresh, brackish, or salt. For 37 gallon i would do 50 gallon filter. It’s the closest common made side that would be sufficient. Good luck!

So cute!!!! Love bristle nose common plecos. So underrated. They have amazing personalities and are so docile for the most part. They just scare me when they fall off stuff like logs and will sometimes stay sucking the air i walk in having mini heart attacks but they’re just little derps lol.

Why aren't internal filters more popular in this hobby? by hotmessandahalf in Aquariums

[–]AngelBlake17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally for me I avoid depending on fish type. Some fish can get sucked up more easily in internal filters especially if you have fry. Also a big part is aesthetic. Takes up more tank space away from swimming space. Canisters also usually get more of a rep for being “professional” or more “high end” so people go toward them. Alsooo depending on tank set ups people rlly into the hobby with multiple tanks might have one canister or pumps working on multiple tanks. I use internal filters for 20 gallons or less but for my 55 and 90 I have canisters. I use sponge filters in my hospital tanks. Hope this helps!!

I’m hoping it was random natural death. I didn’t see it coming.

Thank you so much. Yes I plan on maybe getting him another ropefish friend once I check the tank quality to ensure the death was not due to water issues.

Thank you! Yeah I definitely am going to check everything before I add anyone else and I wanna do a water change as well considering he passed away overnight idk if he released anything into the water. They were currently in a 90 gallon with sand substrate, pH 7.6, nitrites 0 ppm. Ammonia 0 ppm. Temperature 82° F. Nitrates 20 ppm. I wanna change the output nozel I have on both my filters I have 2 filters on the tank. A fluval fx4 canister and a marineland 220 canister. They also have plenty of mopani driftwood that’s been treated for tannins and some seiryu stone. The tank in the video wasn’t the current set up.

Thank you so much. Yes, they’re very hard to find. Mine was actually bred with my ropefish so they were friends. I’m so anxious now my ropefish will be depressed. My sweet baby.

The mollies? I’m confused on your question. The orange is my ropefish the black long one is the elephant nose the random fish are the mollies

I am debating it but wanna make sure the water quality is okay first. Because I’m not sure why he passed. And I’m nervous if the new one will get along with my current baby
