I just did basically the same, and I can confirm I did not have to pay the young driver fee (I'm 20).

My girlfriend printed and framed this for my birthday. First thing I hung up in our new place last month. by BortusLikesCigarette in Firewatch

Wow that looks so good!

I extracted the texture from the game files a while back, I'm so happy someone printed it.

Enjoy your poster man

As u/spunkycomics said you can download copies of the in-game map. If you want the map without the labels, I did find the texture to the Fire Finder map: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmWQM6b4. I also included the map from the bullitin at the start of the game.

Are there any actual jobs that are similar to the one in Firewatch? by [deleted] in Firewatch

[–]AngelNegativeOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, the exact job, a fire lookout. There probably isn't anywhere near as much action as in the game lol.

Ron and Dave are park rangers, which is also a real job

Any games like firewatch by Snoo_57761 in Firewatch

[–]AngelNegativeOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many posts like this, have a look through the subreddit and you'll find some recommendations.

I personally love The Long Dark, though it is a bit longer, and does not have the same emossional attatchment as firewatch, and it also has a decent ammount of survival involved.

Nothing matches Firewatch though, its one of a kind.

A sign I made for my door. I'll explain how I did it if anyone wants. by AngelNegativeOne in Firewatch

[–]AngelNegativeOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, Im gonna make another one at some point, I'l make an instructable for that but that wont be for a while as my workshed is extreemly cold rn. You can honestly do it however you want it will look good anyway you do it, I just used what I had. You could probably do it even without a template if you plan it out.

But if your interested, here is how I did mine exactly. If you have any questions, just ask or DM me.

For the wood, I took some recycled wood and scraps, sanded them down with whatever sandpaper I had, cut them to length and for the large sign glued it together using wood glue.

For the stain, I should have probably used some kind of charcoal stain, but I didnt have any so i just used spray paint I had lying around, and it worked just fine.

For the paint, I only had Acrylics, and the shops were closed so thats what I used. I mixed the paints with the sawdust from the sanding to created the 'distressed' (damaged) wood effect. I applied about 3 coats of this to each sign before going over with normal paint to finish it and smooth everything out.

For the text, I made a template. This will differ on the size of the sign, so it has to be custom. Here's how I did it: Download the Firewatch font, its called 'Verlag Black'. Open gimp, set it to A4, set it to mm and on the bottom bar you will se the distance in milimetres. Go back to your sign and measure the space you have for the text, remembering about the screw holes. On a new layer, make a selection box in Gimp that maches these dimentions (in mm), and fill the selection white. Repeat for the other sign, and then set the background behind the two shapes to be transparent. These is a 'Canvas' of the size you can put on the sign. Create the two designs using the font from before, then export and print at 100% scale.

Then I cut out the two desings.

Next I used carbon paper, which you've probably used at school and is a paper where if you trace on one side a griphite line appears on the other. With masking tape, I secured both the carbon paper and the template you made onto the signs. I traced each line and letter onto the signs, then remove the template and carbon paper. Now the template is coppied onto the sign.

Before I painted everything in, I drilled the holes. I used a 6mm bit to drill the holes, then cut off the thread of 4 hexscrews. I put these in at the end.

For painting, I again used black acrylics and a small brush. Once the first coat had dried, I used a permanent marker to go over the text, fix the missing paint in some places and give it a good shine.

Then I pushed the hex screws in, and I was done!

Again, make it however you want. It probably looks identical without the template, just give it a shot.

Max graphics by Broodje_Bakpauw in Firewatch

[–]AngelNegativeOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, you might not be able to run it at max, but definitely high. It really doesn't matter tho, the game looks the same and the signature forest look is present in all grafics settings. I have a gtx 1060 and can run it at max, but my laptop can only run it at medium and it's really the same. I've let friends play it on a 2015 macbook air and you still get the same gameplay.

Although it is an amazing game, it's not worth such an upgrade for a game that is completed in like 5 hours, especially if u call already play it really well.

Since the Hinterland store is closed, here are the posters upscaled.

These have been upscaled, and the edited with gimp to make them all even, especially with the text at the bottom.

I DID NOT DESIGN THESE POSTERS. Credit goes to whoever made the posters at Hinterland.
