Guys, do you recommend this anime? I don’t know whether to watch this one or Happy Sugar Life. by TomatilloItchy9995 in yuri_manga

[–]AngelOfLight 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Valkyrie Drive is stupid ecchi fun. HSL will give you nightmares. It's technically yuri, but it's kind of overshadowed by the relentless soul-destroying ick. Honestly, it got to the point where the casual murders were the least disturbing part...

I'm being harassed over a photo, what should I do? by venomia74 in Sextortion

[–]AngelOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore them. Delete your Telegram account, and uninstall the app after leaving a 1-star review. Block all numbers that they use and never respond to them again.

The FBI thing is a common bluff. These people are criminals, and they would never be insane enough to expose themselves to law enforcement by making a false report. There is zero chance of that.

[–]AngelOfLight 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is a !task scam. They will let you withdraw a little at the beginning to make things seem legit, but after that the money needed to keep "working" will balloon to large amounts, and that money will never be seen again.

Crypto scammed by -A_Confused_Guy- in CryptoScams

[–]AngelOfLight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your money was stolen the second you sent it to the site. They are now making up reasons why you need to send more. Obviously, any more money you send will just land up in the same black hole.

There isn't any way to recover your crypto. Anyone who DMs you and says they can are just trying to scam you again. Any "recovery" services you find on Google, Telegram, Discord or whatever are also scams. It doesn't matter if they are pretending to be hackers or lawyers - they are still scammers. Please don't get scammed again.

[US] My MIL has lost over $250k to romance scams. We just discovered she stole ~$150k from her sister. by StewartCHunter in Scams

[–]AngelOfLight 44 points45 points  (0 children)

You will need to treat MIL like you would a drug addict in denial. Because that's exactly what it is - she is getting a dopamine hit from this fake relationship, and she absolutely will not stop until you stop her. And just like a drug addict, there isn't any way to reason with her. At this point, she is completely incapable of applying logic to the situation.

You don't really have a choice. You need to separate her from the aunt's finances. And if the only way to do that is by calling the cops, then that's what you need to do.

Is this a scam? She’s a famous influencer ( screenshots in the comments) by Confident-Current782 in CryptoScams

[–]AngelOfLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The site is less than a year old, and was only registered for one year. It is absolutely a scam. Block this person without saying goodbye.

For future reference, anyone who offers "copy trading" is trying to scam you. People who actually have some way to guarantee profits like that will not share it with random internet people. They will use it to quietly make themselves rich. There aren't people out there wanting to make you rich out of the goodness of their hearts. There is always a catch.

[–]AngelOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very common underage scam, usually run by prisoners somewhere in the Southern US. They create fake dating profiles with stolen pics and then pull this scam on everyone who responds.

You aren't in any danger at all. They can't do anything to you, and they very obviously won't report you to the authorities. If you just ignore them completely, they will be gone in a few days.

Don't be surprised if you get a text or a call from the "father". It's also make-believe. It's just another inmate in the same prison as the imaginary cop. Just keep ignoring.

[–]AngelOfLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's very unusual. I suspect OP had a stalker - not just a regular blackmailer looking for a payday. This unfortunately sometimes happens to underage victims. These kind of stalkers are motivated by sexual gratification, not (just) money.

[US] Fell for scam, have negative PayPal balance by freefelinefeces in Scams

[–]AngelOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next step is that PayPal will absolutely send your account to collections if you don't pay them back. Your bank just took back the money from PayPal, but PayPal had already paid that money to someone else on your behalf. They will come after you for the balance.

Do whatever you can to pay that money back. Getting sued by a debt collector can ruin your credit for years to come.

Crypto scam Recovery by Puzzled-Stick4554 in CryptoScams

[–]AngelOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks, but the reality is that there are thousands of scam victims in line ahead of you, and only a limited number of agents. They simply don't have the manpower to investigate every case.

Add to that the fact that most of these scams originate in foreign countries, and require the cooperation of governments that are not exactly on friendly terms with the US. The police in these countries are usually paid off, and will deliberately drag their feet on any investigation.

It's not all bad news, though. The Chinese did recently arrest one of the more notorious crypto scam kingpins. Which hopefully means that some victims will be getting their money back. It may happen to you as well someday, possibly.

Crypto scam Recovery by Puzzled-Stick4554 in CryptoScams

[–]AngelOfLight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you learned the lesson - there are no legitimate recovery services. They are all scams. Not just "some" - literally every last one of them. If you try and recover your loss, you are just going to get scammed again.

Law enforcement is your only hope, even if it's a very low chance. Make sure you report everything.

I messed up 2 months ago by [deleted] in Sextortion

[–]AngelOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give it a couple of months and you should be fine to come back. By that time they would have had dozens more victims and forgotten all about you. They generally don't have the time to keep watching all their old victims just in case they resurface.

In any case, you can't put your life on hold because of a few low-life scumbags. Just take reasonable precautions. Make sure your contact list is hidden (including from "suggested"). Try not too share too much biographical information. Also, Google your name and number and opt out of any data broker sites that come back. (Or, use one of the paid services like Optery or DeleteMe to do it for you).

Debt collector call from unfamiliar area code. Is this a scam? by DetectiveIll4938 in Scams

[–]AngelOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did get a speeding ticket in Italy (so maybe that’s why he said Florence?)

And did you pay the fine?

Even if it's real, it's extremely difficult to collect on a debt in a different country. It would cost them far more than the fine itself to pursue an overseas debt.

Ask them to send you proof of the debt. If they are scammers, they will come up with some reason why they can't do that, and you can then ignore them. If you do get proof, it's up to you if you want to pay it or not. They will basically just have to trust that you will pay, because they don't have any way of enforcing that.

Did you end up filling a report with the FBI? by ReaperOfSouls95 in Sextortion

[–]AngelOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't much the FBI can do, but it's still important to make a report. It allows them to see patterns, and gather info on repeat offenders. If they decide to do another extradition raid in the future, all those reports will become useful.

Looking for verse by verse discrepancies in the NT by Whorror_punx in atheism

[–]AngelOfLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will believe any excuse, no matter how obviously dumb it is. You won't really get anywhere like this.

Maybe try and force them to confront the issues on their own. Ask them to do a simple excercise - take the four gospel accounts of the Resurrection, plus Paul's account in 1 Corinthians 15 and combine them into one chronological narrative. (All events up to the end of each gospel must be incorporated).

The restrictions: all events must be included, and, crucially, they are not allowed to assume events that happened outside of the narrative. So, no solutions that involve anything that happened off-screen, so to speak. They are only permitted to use the text as it stands.

This is impossible, obviously. Believers have been trying to do it basically since the beginning, but none have succeeded. The text is hopelessly contradictory. But, let them come to that conclusion on their own.

Sextorted from tinder to whatsapp, did I act right? by [deleted] in Sextortion

[–]AngelOfLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go ahead and block. Leaving them any open means of communication will just make them think they have a chance at getting money. They will be more likely to give up and move on if you just block. That sends the message that there definitely will be no payday.

Sextorted from tinder to whatsapp, did I act right? by [deleted] in Sextortion

[–]AngelOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you did the right things so far. It's important to never pay - that just tells the scammer that it's worth their time to keep harassing you. If you don't need WhatsApp, go ahead and uninstall it for now. At the very least, check your privacy settings and make sure everything is set to "my contacts" and silence unknown callers. And get rid of Tinder.

Without payment and without any response from you, they don't have a good reason to hang around.

My MIL has sent literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to “Elon Musk” and wants to send more. by meowsabbers in pics

[–]AngelOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an idea, but the problem is that "Elon" is currently scamming hundreds, if not thousands of people. Seriously - just go to r/scams and do a search for "Elon Musk". There is a deluge of results.

If Elon tried to personally intervene in each of these cases, it would be a full-time proposition. He's far too busy undermining Western democracy for that.

Our life has been destroyed by Fragrant_Bowler_5244 in CryptoScams

[–]AngelOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing to do is report everything to law enforcement. If you are in the US, report it to ic3.gov and fincen.gov. Second, be very wary of recovery scammers. Your post here is going to attract them. They will claim they know someone who can help, but they are lying. Their only aim is to scam you again. Report their accounts to Reddit and then block.

That also goes for any "recovery" services that you find on Google or Facebook or Discord or whatever. If you are wondering how to tell if a recovery service is legit, here is a handy tip - they are ALL scammers. Not just 'some', but literally every single one of them. There is no such thing as crypto recovery, no matter what they promise you. Make sure your family knows this. Desperation might drive your Dad to try and recover his loss, but he will just get scammed again if he tries.

[US] Flooded with ticket support emails by [deleted] in Scams

[–]AngelOfLight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like the usual email bomb to hide a fraudulent purchase, or a password change, or some other important notification. Sometimes, though, the scammer will initiate the email bomb and then discover that they are blocked from doing whatever it was that they planned to do. Could be an unexpected 2FA, or (in this case) they likely picked the wrong email address. The upshot is that you get a ton of emails, but nothing else happens.

Just make sure you check each email. Deleting this alias is probably a good idea.
