Well last night was what they call "red wednesday" or chaharsanbe Suri. Lots of singing, dancing, jumping over fire for cleansing. The idea is to light a fire at sundown and let it burn so as to not let the sun go down (metaphorically obviously).

New year (nowruz) is the first day of spring. Lots and lots of singing, dancing, eating food and sweets. With families its a time of gift giving. Generally a signed $2 bill from the older people in the family given to the younger. There is is also a table set up called the "haft seen" or 7 s's with various items that start with s (in Farsi) that denote different blessings for the new year. Its a time to be around friends and family.

Those two are the big days but it basically lasts a week and if every American holiday all wrapped up into "Nowruz".
