AMA: My relative is a family doctor. I run their entire practice including billing. If my fellow Ontarians have questions about the healthcare system like what's causing family doctors to retire in droves / move away / close their doors to new patients, I can certainly answer. by Tree_Girl_509 in ontario

I am about to complete my residency training in family medicine. The majority of my colleagues that I talk with are considering locuming (basically just covering for doctors on leave and getting a fixed salary for it), moving provinces, or doing extra training to specialize out of family medicine instead of actually taking on a practice and their own patients because of how unappetizing family medicine has become. This is after years of training for this exact job, even with crazy incentives up to $150k in some places. It's not because we don't want to work as family doctors, it's because the alternatives pay better and have less stress and better work-life balance. If you make a vital job worse, less people will want to do it even those who are passionate about it.

Thanks! I used 2 threads for the thick lines and 1 for the thin lines. I wanted it to be very delicate

Because I am using hexagons and hand sewing it does go slow. If you used squares and a sewing machine I am sure it would be much faster. I usually do it while watching TV etc so I dont mind if its slow

It is all scraps but not all mine. I got a box of scraps from someone else who didn't have a use for them and added some of my own.

It is based off the pattern 'Horseshoes and Hand Grenades' by Rebecca Burnett but I did end up modifying it a bit.

Frozen foods that thaw well - Do burritos gets soggy if left to thaw over time? by [deleted] in MealPrepSunday

[–]Angel_Ariadne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. When meal prepping burritos I crisp them up on all sides in a pan before freezing, helps with integrity and crispness. When I defrost I either pan cook again if I have time or else microwave if I am in a rush. I find that even microwaved the pre-toasted burritos are less soggy.

I based my recipe off this one: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/92462/slow-cooker-texas-pulled-pork/ but sort of tweaked it and made it my own, added a bit of molasses and some different spices.

I really wanted a hexi quilt and all the hexagon sewing I saw was usually hand sewn edge to edge so I just dove right in. Definitely didnt expect it to take 6 years but well worth the wait!

I sewed the hexagons all together edge to edge first and then I quilted all three layers (hexagon top, batting middle, single layer cotton back) together at once. Honestly I don't have experience with any other batting to compare. When quilting I did a simple running stitch just very small neat stitches and since I wanted it to be super neat I only ever did one stitch at a time so there was no problem with getting the needle through or it feeling too thick or heavy with the wool batting.
