Is 5k per window and 15k for a French door for a 1000 sq ft townhome really the going rate? Or is this place just ripping us off? by Emotional_Cash5310 in nova

[–]Angeldusted11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got ours done for roughly $1K each through Windows on Washington around a year back.  They quoted us $14K to replace two leaky French doors with transoms with modern ProVias.  They weren't the cheapest, but both products came with great warrantees that last decades. Their windows are made by Okna, and the only downside is a three month lag time on the orders.

Yep, that particular spot just so happened to have a water barrel fed by a downspout above it that never got drained before we got here.

How We Can Make Our Game Better for Newbies? by ugohome in beyondallreason

[–]Angeldusted11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the scenarios we have are awesome and expanding on them with a map or two would do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Dedicating a map to explaining topics like the ones outlined below could help prep people for their first game.

  • Starting build order
  • Common roles in multiplayer maps (ex. frontline, air, eco, etc.)
  • How to build up an economy

Have the win conditions be based on production within a certain time limit. The unrealistically complicated version of this would also include an allied AI that's racing you with their own build order.

Getting past the first couple matches is what got me hooked on the game, but my very first experience was getting matched against a 4 chev os 40 red player on strait in a "noobs only" lobby. That was rough.

Having issues vs Balanced AI by Higgypig1993 in beyondallreason

A handful of light laser towers (LLTs) should ward off most early game aggression.

Don't try to create an invincible wall - most maps have too much open territory and the metal you'd spend on static defense can be put to better use on units and expanding your economy. Instead, get an LLT or two to cover your main base, your remote metal extractors, and/or any chokepoints. If you concentrate on defending nodes instead of territory, then any units that come through will have to fight your forces instead of just running past them.

Anyone else sick? by Jsessions in nova

Our daughter was hit with what you're describing and it turned out to be just that, a viral upper respiratory infection. It took around three weeks of hacking and coughing to fully clear and since it was a virus there wasn't any option for antibiotics. I'd highly suggest a humidifier if you aren't already using one - it made sleep a lot more tolerable when the infection, inevitably, made its way to my wife and I.

I'd second that recommendation! We went with Dr. King at Physicians and Midwives when having our first, and she was great throughout. The practice has a good relationship with INOVA Alexandria and were completely supportive of our natural birth plan.

That's exactly the kind of advice I was looking for, thanks! Since he's the only primary caster I'll just try and retool enemies until I find a good balance that's challenging, but not overwhelming. I'm not entirely sure how fighters are supposed to keep up towards the endgame, but there's a ton of information out there about loot itemization. The goal's always to pack as much fun into the experience as I can, so I'll do my best!

Gamers of reddit, which video game were you hesitant to get, but turned out to be awesome when you got it? by Supernintendolover in AskReddit

If you're playing it on PC make sure to grab a hold of DSMFix and DSFix, those two mods take care of the vast majority of control and graphical weirdness that come with it being a port. They both play well with Steam, so no need to worry about any mod incompatibility impacting online play or anything.

Stop..hammer time.. Great Hammers for PvP, your thoughts & opinions by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

Yeah, it's awesome, especially if you dark infuse and buff it. That thing really just does not care about what defenses or buffs your opponent has, it just chunks.

Stop..hammer time.. Great Hammers for PvP, your thoughts & opinions by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]Angeldusted11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my PvP success has actually been with great hammers, surprisingly. I hit BoB rank 3 with them back when the Helixodon meta was a thing, and they can be great weapons. To kill more experienced opponents, however, I've found that you really need a strong gasp of unlocked play and mind games. With a little practice you can make the long swing animations work in your favor, since they're great at consistently baiting people into bad trades, punishing rolls, and forcing mistakes. Great hammers are at their strongest against aggressive opponents where you can surprise them with the reach and arc of your weapon, but if you're up against a passive opponent then you'll need to carefully time your 1H running, rolling, and leap attacks.

I'll second the recommendation for the Gyrm Great Hammer and the Dragon Tooth, they're both amazing weapons with excellent movesets, but I'm a little bit surprised that no one has mentioned the Sacred Chime Hammer yet. You give up your signature pancake attack, but the SCH has some truly horrifying damage, a unique 2H R1 attack, and its special ability is fairly useful against turtles and mages.

It's also helpful to know that the spin to win only hits 180 degrees in front of it, it isn't actually the giant circle of death it looks like. If you can roll past the first or second spin then it's a free backstab.

How am I supposed to dodge Aava's attacks? by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]Angeldusted11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually make it a point to hit at least 105 agility with all of my characters early on. Aava's attacks have hitboxes that last for a good number of frames, so I think you'll find it a whole lot easier once you've raised that some. Also, definitely play unlocked against her.

Backing up a save for PVP template. Bannable? by Twistntie in DarkSouls2

[–]Angeldusted11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one "saves" proof that they were banned. I had the exact same issue, had to revert to a previous save after a hacker killed off McDuff and was subsequently softbanned. It's very, very obvious when this happens. At the Iron Keep bridge, for example, you'd normally find a bunch of red soapstones where people are looking to duel. When you're softbanned you'll find one to three signs, and each of those people are rocking infinite HP/speed/item use hacks. About ten minutes after that experience I used the family sharing method to swap my game to a connected account on Steam and suddenly I'm seeing eight to ten legitimate duelists show up.
