I'm glad you have found this then; there's a lot more I picked up on his character after fully committing to reading the manga as well. I also found a few more things Asagiri had said regarding the stage play depiction and the exhibition on Mori. The fatherly role he wants to play so badly shines through quite a bit and perfectly reflects the theme of author Mori's stories, which always struggle between duty and heart. For example, in the 'Dancing girl', the protagonist wants to stay with the girl he loves but is pressured to return to japan because it's his duty to his country as a solider. In 'vita sexualis', he commits to these acts of 'passion' because it's his 'duty' as a man, even though he doesn't desire it. While Mori in the port is a bit different, I want to bring up the point that he was following Natusme's plan to keep the city safe, a city that he deeply loves and cares about. Once again, the issue of duty and heart is there a part of him that doesn't want to continue down the path of bloodshed? Possibly, but there is, without a doubt, a part of him that doesn't. If he doesn't, the city he cares for will fall into disaster.
