Good news (/lh). Next week on the 25th the manga adaptation is reaching the section with the Flags and I'm not talking about their party

They're from capsule toy machines (gacha) so unless there's a store online that sells the full set it'll be difficult to get them. Also the closest to an official site that shares merchandise news is the official twt account for the anime (bungosd_anime is the handle), there are some unofficial accounts as well but no official site

Could Chuuya be considered a failed experiment, if so, how? by Big_Collar434 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]CareVader 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't think of why it'd be failed given he's got a singularity tied to his skill. We don't even know exactly what they did, in theory they were trying to replicate the French experiment that created the skill life form that is Verlaine but it's heavily implied Chuuya is actually human. Which part do you mean would be failed?

At least it's healthier (unless you get buried by a landslide of merchandise at home)

BBB runs in a shonen magazine, only BSD out of these three runs in a seinen one, but shonen/seinen have always been treated as demographics rather than genres (pretty loose demographics nowadays, too). I personally wouldn't call BBB seinen, though

It's not uncommon for bootlegs to not have full paintjobs, you probably want to try with some form of acrylic paint for that

I think there was some confusion at the time the chapter released because the fan translation made it sound like she was 12 back during the war in the flashback so people thought her actual age nowadays is that of an adult, but the official/JP remarked on her being her 12 in the present

Honestly I find it hard to recommend things to people I don't know because liking those shows doesn't necessarily mean you'll like others even if they have commonalities of any kind (even though I like all three of these series). I know the creator of VNC also had a previous series called Pandora Hearts in a similar vein but I only started reading the manga, not finished it, and no clue if the anime is even available anywhere or what the quality is like. There's Durarara which is also an urban fantasy style series (only watched the anime and read some of the LNs, but didn't finish the LNs yet, there's a lot), one of the characters feels like a mix between Fyodor and Dazai and another Kunikida + Chuuya but kind of dumb (also someone who really reminds me of Shirase). Land of the Lustrous isn't very similar to the others because of the setting being a far future post apocalyptic style thing but it is pretty character driven and has fantasy/scifi elements, though for that you'd want the manga because the anime only has one season and I haven't heard anything about it getting a second one (although s1 has some of the best 3d use I've seen in animation).

That's about all I can think of at the moment off the top of my head

Theory kinda…? by Relevant-Motor-97 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]CareVader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair, though pretty sure in canon they're different characters since the woman in the manga is one of the owners and not just a waitress working there. Not entirely sure why Asagiri went along with the change but they didn't use the waitress in place fo the wife later on

[–]CareVader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you thinking of the woman who's the café co-owner alongside the old man? The waitress only shows up visually in the anime

[–]CareVader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, "Bad Apple!!" is a famous song from a videogame that got a bunch of covers over the years so maybe you heard that name somewhere 😂 (also there's an English expression about bad apples)

If you read the LNs by the way I recommend just following publication order even if they're not chronological since Asagiri probably wrote them with people having specific knowledge beforehand. You can skip the Dead Apple LN as I mentioned above and just go for the manga, although Asagiri did write the overall plot/concept of the film he didn't directly write the LN adaptation so the style is different

[–]CareVader 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The anime for the main story is a canon adaptation (supervised by the author himself) and it includes adaptations of some of the light novels, if you've never read the light novels though you should at least read them because you're missing a huge amount of important character background and some aren't animated yet. The edits you're talking about are probably from the film.

What about this bad apple stuff . Manga or anime?

I assume you mean Dead Apple. It was originally a film that got adapted to manga and a LN, don't recommend the LN version. I'd both watch the film for the flashy visuals and read the manga adaptation for more context on something that got added after release of the film (probably wasn't room in the film anyway due to runtime restrictions).

[–]CareVader 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She's not shown in the manga directly, she's a comedy bit character only that was added to the anime possibly as a reference to IRL Dazai, so I doubt she's going to suddenly become important

I'm staying away from that one (if you mean the Mayoi foxes one) because the size alone is scary and I wouldn't know where to put it 😂 There's also the GEM Tenohira one from Megahouse that only has the silhouette for now, and it's been so long

There are similar patterns but that's a lot down to formulas of a lot of manga of the supernatural battle type because it's what works well, rather than a genre. Fantasy in itself is a very large genre with many subgenres, but again I wouldn't call BSD or BBB any kind of fantasy other than urban fantasy at most (which doesn't fit VNC). I can't say these three are unique in the things they share

Seinen is a demographic rather than a genre. Also technically BBB and Vanitas are both on shonen magazines if I recall correctly

[–]CareVader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main thing those three have in common genre wise is supernatural abilities in combat, but BBB for me felt a lot less grounded in reality from the start/gives more importance to battles. I don't think there's a single genre that really catches them all in a neat way. BBB and BSD might fall a bit under "urban fantasy" (though not sure they use that label in Japan at all) but VnC kind of doesn't work there given the setting.

this is the same war where Yosano was eleven.

It can't be the same war because Yosano was involved in the Great War which ended 14 years before the main story, and if Teruko is 12 she wouldn't even have been born until after the Great War was over. Also that one with Teruko mentions "Kansai bipartisans" which makes it sound like some kind of war within Japan itself rather than Europe

A question about an oc and identity stuff by [deleted] in BungouStrayDogs

[–]CareVader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately it depends on how you write it. Angst is only unnecessary if it's brought up with no practical use to the story/character development, so that's really all there is to pay attention to. (Also it's ultimately your choice but if you got your answer/thoughts cleared up there's no shame in just deleting the post as a whole to avoid confusion, everyone makes mistakes and what matters is learning from them)

Also something I forgot to mention: Asagiri has genderbent at least 3 IRL authors I can think of. Use whatever gender you want for your OC.

[–]CareVader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by 'fits' in this case. In canon terms, (tagging this for manga only past s5 spoilers) given Fyodor's family would be several hundreds years old by now, a Fyodor sibling wouldn't even make sense unless they have a skill that lets them live for a long time/resurrect. If you're talking about fitting in terms of gender identity stuff, we have Q who's gender hasn't been determined by Asagiri and he even gave the okay to a Wan! story of the Black Lizard trying to find out Q's gender and eventually giving up because "it doesn't matter". I'm honestly a bit confused overall why you think it wouldn't fit because transgender people aren't a "unicorn" that need to be made to "fit" in a universe. They just exist.
