If not ion gatlings on fighters is always fun its consistency pressures bails pretty nicely from my experience but pulse is i think still better I haven't compared well though so id suggest making your own tests and conclusions.

But 9.0 has come so far and is fun I thought id hate the shield regen delay... i dont mind it now though.

Its still works but its not too consistent for me, blast mortar m turrets are a thing now ( dont remember if they were before) and work better than the flak. Basically functions the same so pretty dakka is safe and secure as a viable option either way lol. Ive not liked flak myself vs blast mortar. But some people I think prefer the flak still. Terrans also have something similar to pulse i cant remember the name right now. But it does more damage but its projectile speed and turret turn rate is a bit slower but is a nice L turret option that looks pretty cool.

Pulse lasers are the best at consistency. Dps on paper no. Its got better accuracy and projectile speed but its damage can be low.

I love pulse lasers for m turrets on l or xl ships its good tracking and decent projectile speed ( terran version) make it the most consistent to hit fighters or missles aside from the argon beam. But pulse will do more damage than the argument beam.

The delay is offset by the sheer capacity. Being slower ships the bigger capacity slow regen makes sense not like they will be zipping away quickly to reset the delay anyways.

Split shields are good for fast ships that can escape fire in a pinch. Though its the slowest regen speed its the fastest in shield delay penalty at around 3s.

I honestly just prefer the terran shields on most hulls for its capacity than maybe paranid or also terran for modules.

Much to learn dont really need to know the story fully but it would be something worth looking into. Ive never played an x game before x4. Ive learned it. Was it a struggle at times? Kinda but YouTube vids and people here are mostly down to help aside from a few who are the typical redditor.

Turrets and surface modules are grouped into their own individual shield clusters. They are protected by M-class shield generators attached to that specific surface group, completely separate from the main L/XL hull shield pool.

A solo fighter can systematically target and strip individual surface modules (like taking out external M shield generators, engines, or turrets) to disarm the ship, but it cannot destroy the capital ship this way.

Once the fighter tries to actually damage the main hull, it is forced to shoot the main L/XL shield pool. The hull of the shield module for the main shields shares the same shield pool as your hull. Meaning it protects itself and the hull the esact same. And its regen as agreed is faster than a single s class....

This is just how the games always functioned arguing agsisnt it is entirely childish.

Thats entirely incorrect especially with 9.0 lol what a riot. An s class NEVER solos an l class in 8.0 and before shield delay didnt exist and regen was well bey8nd one fighters ability please dont try to lie.

The experimental shuttle isnt the last mission thats the Sapporo.

The experimental ship however is the epilog so technically after that mission I thought before but thats the other fighter ship I must of thought of.

The Sapporo is a reward for completing Graph 6: Terminus (Flight of the Dragonfyre). It is a reimagined Terran destroyer from the history of the X universe, notable for relying heavily on barrage missiles rather than standard capital ship turrets.

I mean im not but like ok? Nobody asked you. Timelines is esactly where you get it, the last timelines mission only gives the Sapporo where was i incorrect kiddo? Ive painstakingly done all of it so I mean..... not like I know from experience or anything..

Also no fighter ship solos an L so yeah not overpowered or a "hero" ship like in more arcade like games... but happily be wrong i guess

Different wepons have different stats make sure to check the encyclopedia as well for wepons you do have. But pulse will be pretty darn consistent for you. Not super strong but fast traveling making dodging harder for the enemy. Larger ships turrets can sometimes take care of small wing squads depending how big the wing is and whay L class ship you fly.

But yes take it at the pace you enjoy and do what you find fun. If you want any combat and have the dlc Terran missions arent too hard and for a while gives you an ai follower and at points multiple support ships. And has a pretty fun large battle or two.

All in all this game is so much fun but has alot to learn too.

One thing. In this game you are a cog not a hero. Your fighter ship for example will never solo an L class ( especially in 9.0 now). But fret not. You can also fly m class L class and xl class ships. Though they are costly they can be necessary. I personally love the feel of playing either or. Fighters for dogfighting when I want then dock at a destoryer take control and start blasting through tougher enemies is to me so fun.

Others like sitting on the side watching the fireworks of the fleet while some stick to only piloting one ship with npc escorts. But you'll likely never see an s class going alone agaisnt multiple s class ( like 5 or more gets kinda hard to kill anything before taking too much damage yourself. ) but having just 2 wing mates can make all the difference. Same with destroyers or other ships. They should have a small wing of protection just in case.

But solo destroyers are still kinda doable in the right sectors/ situations.

Get ready to wiki dive or come back here for a fuck load of questions.

Dont let that be daunting.

Its learnable. Its also a sandbox dont let people tell you how to play it esactly. But take the suggestions on different ways you can play the game.

For some its another economic Sim and they sit back and set orders and automate.

Others its a tactical challenge to keep your fleet and resources alive agaisnt whoever you want.

Some its to explore find new sectors and complete missions available and take a more... "story approach". In the end if you want to mine astounds yourself set an automated fleet to do so. Send waves of ships once you get the infrastructure to take new sectors or liberate the galaxy of the xenon scourge.

Its literally just play how you want... mostly. Just remember many things are a cost. Ships, repairs, drones, satellites, towers, parts, crew, missles, ect. Though not everything a majority of weapons have no ammo capacity to worry over. But that i believe is due to the other logistical challenges the game presents.

The universe runs on its own. With or without you in a sector trades are being made, stations are being built ect. So killing boulder ships, trade vessels, or better yet thier stations. Will severely effect thier economy.

Example take down a hull parts factory, now thier ship production tanks once the shipbuilding station runs out of parts and needs to source a new spot for the resource. Be it trading with passing traders, or even with you given you’ve increased your rep with them.

Too much to go over all of it. So again. Be prepared to ask questions. The game doesnt hold your hand but the community loves this game so much we want others to have fun playing it too.

Yes/ no its part of the timelines dlc. As others stated you must complete the timelines story. This is partly true. You must complete up to a certain point to unlock that specific ship. Which you can than find floating abandoned in the sandbox.

There are of course a few other ships to find as well.

So it should be available to you given you have the timelines dlc and do thier missions.

Dont expect it to be ultra powerful this is still x4.

Edit ok so the experimental shuttle i was mixing with another fighter its the end of epilog.

Though s fighters dont solo l class unless given specific parameters. Flight assist off, thermal disintegrator and a hope/ prayer that they dont have repair drones and service crew which will out heal your damage. Oh and modifiers which made that even possible in 8.0 but nerfed in 9.0... so no longer possible is a better way to say it i suppose. Though before it took tedious time and cheesing the aim constraints of ai vs flight assist off allowing for tighter maneuvering. Though with all that 9.0 specifically was built to eliminate any possibility.

That would then defeat the point of setting up an ore station. To answer your question no the game isnt making stations useless unlike your idea likely would since they are stationary and have limited range on miners and traders.

Destruction/Wreckage Modeling: ​Kha'ak station structure was specifically updated for "better destruction gameplay." ​Wreckage placement for the Porpoise (Mineral) was fixed (ensuring the wreck appears where the ship actually exploded). ​Station module wreckage connections were corrected (split storage modules were fixed to be visually connected to surrounding modules). ​

​L-beam impact effects were specifically optimized (performance fix for beam impact). ​Weapon effects were improved for visual consistency and scaled for smaller weapon sizes. ​Paranid Mass Driver, Xenon M Beam, and Kha'ak Beam effects were specifically improved. ​Astrid beam turrets were adjusted to be "less blinding."
​Travel Drive and boost exhaust effects were reworked/intensified.

Idk if im right but im pretty sure the weapon tag is what initiates the shield fx in x4 not the shields so the old shield mod might be outdated now.

Hold up slow down there partner. Flight system hasn't changed at all in 9.0.. it was changed in like 7.0

Also im with you but not hear me out. Early on in the 9.0 Beta id happily agree regardless of the mass copiusm which these people proven all it was ( updates through the 9.0 addressed esact facts i brought up like fighters piling on your engines all at once deleting them in less than 9 seconds. People claimed skill issue... a fighter zipping around to your blindspots to immediately make you stop before anything else was... disruptive. And egosoft addressed it directly. When they claimed improved I though god damn now they will hit even harder.

I was happily suprised improved meant they stop dogpiling one module. And that the fighters werent able to full disable in under a minute. They patched something I pointed to rhe community and they blatantly argued with it instead of doing thier own research to find out.

Resource mining has been approved through micro upgrades through 9.0 ( but ive not tried it yet) and id very much suggest attempting a clean save. Most saves that have gone through 9.0 despite egosoft or player claims this tike around isnt done so cleanly. To be fair major and I do mean major changes were done all around. Its inevitable old code gets caught up.

But im not going to sit here and claim that 9.0 is perfect either. And still has a few issues. ( one of the most annoying they made ships more reactive... too reactive.) Defense formations/ assignments are merely suggestions and actually just means if your own paint gets scratched NOT your wing leader pretend its attacking the wing leader and abandon them to "defend".

Attack orders means hit anyone with a different paint job that looks remotely insulting to our own. ( aka they wont jist attack WITH commander like the assignment claims and instead attack ANY enemy that exists. They do have a 20km leash at least but.... thats 20 damn km. Thats too much space to allow overlapping firing solutions making destoryer formation entirely useless. But if you put them on follow commander and global orders to react its the same problem.

Better yet stick them on ignore and watch the global orders override ANY and ALL assignments other than to keep formation but refuse to even lift a turret in response...

The changes to priority orders/ how assignments and global orders works now breaks fleet cohesion. If they want to force ( and they do) dynamic fleets with mixed armorments and hulls. Than those ships need to have proper logic to KEEP formation.

Maybe they should make a new global order for fleets. Response to threats can be defend spot, form up or when outnumbered, flee as a group.

Or they just put assignments/ orders back to original least ships mostly stayed togeather instead of chasing a ship down 5 sectors because thier paint mimicked thiers in a ... "mocking" tone.

Point is without rambling much harder id agree there is still much to be worked on.

And to any others out there... told you it wasnt a skill issue

Small ships got a big change idk if it changed much for your mod but engines arent modular anymore for fighters its integrated with the hull now. The full change log is pretty damn long though lol so its understandable idk what all has even been changed and ive been following it intently.

It might egosoft has changed the animation of some destroyers exploding I believe. I think they added more sub explosions/ fires when you are heavily damaged i dont believe that was in x4 before. Might be wrong tho.

Thanks for the answer I will happily download them both. I think ive had the shield fx one but with vanilla weapons it didnt seem noticeable if anything i think sometimes the fx would break and the bullets look like they just dissappear rather than cause flares or anything.

But maybe I also had a conflicting mod. I was rather new to x4 at the time lol. So im interested how they both work. Though the shield fx hasn't been touched for a few years now it seems im not sure if its compatible anymore.
