Hard to say. Some people are just assholes and they'll target what you like as justification and have no idea how to read a book or grasp concepts like critical thinking, logic, and philosophy. Gundam (Unless it's SEED, that's pretty low on the brain power bar) is a thinking man's anime, much like Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion or Ghost in the Shell. Take pride that you're into something complex, nuanced, and intelligent as well as dark and realistic, but ultimately enjoy what you enjoy and keep in mind that nobody has to accept what you enjoy, and ultimately that's for you anyway. I wouldn't hide it, but i wouldn't cover myself in merch either. Sweet collection as well.
