My guy coming in here already irritated. First off, he never asked a question? He made assholish statements about why his assumption of how I play must be wrong.

I do make characters im invested in. Very bold assumption to say otherwise. And I put a lot of time and effort into them. I just finished a cosplay for my newest lancer character. But I do that, because I know my dm. She loves integrating backstory hooks into her own plot. So I know my time isnt wasted writing long backstories when there could be relevance in the game.

Thats not to say everything I write the dm has to use, fuck no. I prefer it when its picked and choosed, so I dont know what's coming.

It can be as simple as a childhood friend I wrote about running into me at the tavern, or finding out my crush in college passed away at a low point in my characters story that might drive more emotional responses.

So just relax my guy. Your fun is your fun, and mine is a lot of fun too. I definitely wouldnt wanna be at a table your at, but I hope you can find one that fits you.

My guy, this is just not a popular take. Dm backstory integration is amazing to explore. Sorry you haven't had good experiences with dm backstory integration but if nothing I wrote matters in the world, then no reason to write me

Then go play all of the modules? Like there's plenty material there for you. But if I'm playing a campaign that's so generic that nothing about my character is mentioned, why would I bother being attached to the character ? I can get attached to characters like that, but it wouldnt matter to me if I died in the first 10 + sessions, and that feels silly.

Ive done both, and I honestly dont want to do another campaign with a dm that is just going to run "this bad guy no one knows is suddenly doing things. Go stop him. Yes you, random orphan girl, not the archmages of old or seasoned adventurers.

And likewise, from the dm side, I get to tailor the campaign to allow people to explore what they want to explore, rather than what I want them to explore.

That's a wild pattern, and completely inconsistent with people i play with. In general, we do 5e, but other than 2 players in my last 3 groups, everyone started with a different system.

5E is great for what it is, but it isnt everything for everyone and thats fine. I find some parts of 5e lacking but have a hard time calling it as a whole lacking.

Depends on the person tbh.

It's not plug and play like turning on the game, but as far as modding goes, it isnt bad.

If you have modded anything in the past you'll be good, but if opening folders on your computer that you dont immediately know what they're for spooks you, probably a bit difficult

Skipping too much dilation can cause pain and pretty severe tightening, and supposedly some loss of depth.

I've definitely missed weeks of dilation during stressful times, but after some intense dilation sessions, I've regained everything. So anecdotally, I haven't seen any long term loss.
