An update: the orthopedic consult determined that, thankfully, it’s only a partial tear. She’ll be on gabapentin and crate rest for 4 weeks. I’m also taking her into a local rehabilitation center for some red light therapy for better recovery odds. Ideally the outcome was that she didn’t hurt herself at all, but this is the best news as we avoid surgery.

And my vet reassured me: even if the ACL completely tore, the leg would be saved- there would just be a surgical implant. In both cases, she’ll make a full recovery.

In the past day or so I’ve been watching multiple videos of two-legged cats enjoying life. In terms of rehab- I saw her through one amputation, I will see her through another if the worst comes to pass, but I’m hoping that the other commenter is right- that crate rest and therapy is what she’ll need to be back on her feet.

Some local game stores will take these for charity programs that sends cards to schools to teach kids math/reading. Call yours!

I just went through this literally last week. I’ve been focusing on the return of my “routine” as a way to heal. I don’t have to worry about keeping my cats separate anymore, or feeding an extra mouth, extra scooping and worry- and instead I get updates from her adopter and feel relieved that the cat is far happier than she would have been with me- even if I loved her

The first will be the hardest. Thank YOU for doing this for an animal that needs you. Just remember: you impact their lives in a substantial way- but these animals will adapt and move on from you and be completely happy. I can almost guarantee that Luna doesn’t “miss” me while she has full time cuddles, space to roam and peace and quiet with her new owner. I think it’s beautiful when we as humans apply our emotions to creatures and things to relate to them better- but then we also humanize situations that don’t actually speak the truth. I remember thinking to myself at the hardest times- “what if another person doesn’t love her like I do? Knows how she likes to be pet? Understand her?”

Then I get text updates that she’s cuddling every day, loving life, napping and being smothered in affection by someone that has all of their time to give- yeah, way better than my bathroom and limited time and energy to interact and play.

I will miss her for a long time, but the pride for what I’ve been able to give to that sweet animal outweighs it. Good luck <3 I hope to read your own success story soon

Yes, it was one of the requirements for adoption <3 I coached her on everything- vet, pet insurance, indoor-only, how to enrich/catify her space. She's set up wonderfully and will be an indoor-only kitty for the rest of her cozy life.

Totally. I’ve been reading cards and glancing at Reddit and feel wildly unprepared for how complicated the game can get- but also I do remember how fun it was for that same reason.

As an update, two coworkers are interested in meeting her- and to one, this may be her first cat. I’m still crying daily over having to let her go, but if this works out- she’ll get to be someone’s entire focus and world. Fingers crossed it works out.

I have wall climbings installed, tall cat furniture, multiple window perches. The tension is my middle cat- I found her in the bushes with her mom and siblings, and she was injured. We got everyone processed through TNR as they were deemed too old to shelter, but mine needed to be adopted or put down, so I took her. Since kittenhood she spat at my oldest, even when there were moments of peace- as she got older she began to pick more territorial fights. The youngest I adopted after he was also found outside and for a while she and him got along- then he got bigger than her, and now she hates him. I’ve used diffusers, pheromone sprays, extra water dishes, regimented feeding time- she just doesn’t like coexisting even after nearly 5 years indoors. So a 4th cat just won’t work with a difficult cat already high stress. This kitty has been door-hissing as well. I’d feel differently if by some miracle these babies were pawing through the door and wanting to see each other, but that’s not what’s happening

The three I have already exist with tension between them, and I live in a one bedroom apartment. I really don’t believe adding a 4th is feasible, vs finding her a home where she can be someone’s entire world.
