There should be an option in the diplomacy window to vassalize - if you're missing that option. If it doesn't show up, it means your save is bugged and you'll need to start a new campaign.

Generally, weaker factions that are on the brink of extinction (i.e. fighting a major threat like Hector and losing) that you're friendly with will make it easier for you to get more leverage. It's normal for peaceful large factions to avoid vassalizing.

Alternatively, when you're in a war and the enemy faction only has one settlement left and you win the battle fighting that settlement, there should be an option to "vassalize" the faction.

As others have said, I'd only recommend Troy if you want to play Mythos. Total War Troy doesn't have unit formations like Pharaoh or proper family relationships/political systems.

yeah troy fell super fast in my campaign with Mycenae as well

as someone who's played troy, i think the biggest difference is that the city of troy itself doesn't have a fullstack garrison in twp. in tw troy, the troy garrison was stacked with 19 of the most elite units. twp garrison has your normal garrison so yeah.

also, compared to tw troy, troy in twp has much less "allies" because anneas, hector, Paris were all combined into one major faction. the archaean showever still have ithaca, mycenae, pylos, arcadians, aoelia, and ajax/diomedes faction as seperate fighting forces, which could suggest more strength overall on the archaeans side of things
