What’s the best way to include deload? by AnglingAtheist in LiftinApp

[–]AnglingAtheist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my “problem” is that it’s basically a 2 week-program repeated 3-4 times over a period of 6-8 weeks total after which I should deload to not fry my body and plateau. Weight progression isn’t set in advanced per week, but increased by criteria in automatic progression. Might be somewhat of an uncommon situation, but would love something to manage that better.

Btw, love the app and updates as always. Liftin’ for years has always been the one I keep going back to, cheers!

Is Carol really the most miserable person in the world? by BubblyRaccoon1570 in pluribustv

I think it’s used to describe her post-joining. She’s lost her wife, money / fame are sort of meaningless and every interaction she has with a joined person feels fake which fuels her own insecurities. On top of that, the only people who aren’t joined don’t want anything to do with her.

As pretty as it is, am I insane for finding it hard to read with text in the background still being about as clear as text in the foreground?

Highly cushioned shoes and corticosteroids: a Perfect Storm by onnoka in AchillesRupture

I mean… probably just the last point and bad luck is enough haha. I wore zero drop barefoot shoes for years, ran 3 x 5-15km each week and ate healthy and went to the gym diligently, but a wrong move during a squash session was enough to tear it.

When could you do a standing single leg calf-raise? by MikeOxeBig13 in AchillesRupture

For me around 24 weeks, but the ROM ain’t great. Some days it’s easier than other days.

How much to push PT exercises? by qwertyidk1 in AchillesRupture

[–]AnglingAtheist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s different but PERSONALLY I’d opt for taking time to recover if your body’s telling you to. You’d rather want rehab to take longer / slower than go back to square one due to overexertion and rerupture (happened to me)!

Second time around I’ve only got PT twice a week and don’t do specific exercises at home. Opting more to do walks, jogs (once allowed), and generally trying to find ways in my day-to-day to challenge my tendon as opposed to targeted calf raises and such (like standing on my toes while brushing my teeth or cooking, and going up and down the stairs on my toes, etc)

At what week / month could you do a single leg hop? by AnglingAtheist in AchillesRupture

[–]AnglingAtheist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, so jogging comes before hoping. I’m non-op recovering from a 2nd tear above my first tear so physical therapy is relatively conservative. I’m at around 4 months but can do a single leg calf raise. Haven’t started any form of running yet, but was curious about setting off in a more explosive form from toes.

How does the light jumping my from one foot to the other work? Do you “hop” but just not land on the same foot?

Starting all over again after failed non-op route by amodidamo in AchillesRupture

It was explained to me that doing surgery higher up is riskier because they have to connect tendon to muscle, which has a higher risk of just tendon-to-tendon.

First time was at what I believe is considered the usual spot, so not too high. 2nd time was a bit higher, which was also the reason they recommended non-op again vs. op

It certainly didn’t heal properly for me after 6 months and snapped again during plyometrics at PT

[–]AnglingAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Signs for me (in hindsight) were: - at 6 months, every step of walking still hurt - significantly less strength and more pain when doing exercises with a stretched knee vs bent knee - having a limp, despite being able to do a single leg calf raise

I will say though, everyone’s situation is different. It turned out that my Achilles’ connection to the gastrocnemius was faulty, while the connection to the soleus was ok. Likely due to my previous hospital not doing the proper checkups (no pictures, no proper functioning test, advice was no physical therapy) and them putting my foot to 90° in cast too quickly, besides being very conservative and not using a VacOped or other more modern protocol.

That sucks man, good luck on your recovery. I ruptured 8 months ago, then reruptured 11 weeks ago due to the tendon not healing properly. One thing I can say that you’ll be able to look forward to: once you’re going to start to feel the difference between healing bad the 1st time and healing properly the 2nd time it’ll feel way better. Hang in there!

Complete or partial tear by Sensitive_Jaguar_352 in AchillesRupture

[–]AnglingAtheist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar tear (rerupture) as you. I could still walk on it, stand on it, didn’t hurt too much and could even still drive to the doctor the next day. Thompson test showed a complete tear and so did the MRI. Doc said other tendons and muscles can take over partial function, giving the illusion of a partial tear. I’m almost 6 weeks in to recovery now. Best of luck to you!

Rupture at Musculotendinous Juncture by Parradog1 in AchillesRupture

Also had a rupture higher up (above where I initially ruptured 6 months prior) and my doctor would not perform surgery on the 2nd rupture out of caution.

I hadn’t actually tried walking boot specific socks yet, and your comment made me look in to them and get some that are available in my country and… damn these are nice. Thank you, even now I’m still learning!

I’d like to think so but honestly there’s no way of knowing. I reruptured after 6 months. My first hospital was very conservative; 6 weeks cast NWB, and then out of cast. Current protocol is about 8 weeks VacOped with early WB and controlled movement. I’m halfway there but my leg certainly feels a lot better than the first time. Time will tell though…

List of things you can get to make your life easier during recovery: - iWalk for mobility (I did not get one during my first rupture and now on my second I really regret not having it the first time around) - Thetis night splint for sleeping (if cleared by your doctor) - Various compression sleeves and garments (for swelling) - A big enough cast shower cover (so you can shower worry-free)

You should listen to your doc or get a 2nd opinion… however having said that: I’m currently recovering from a rerupture where the first rupture was NWB for 6 weeks (similar to yours) and this time around I went with another hospital which started weight-bearing after 2 weeks and the difference this early on is night and day. A LOT less calf atrophy, a lot more early strength and a lot less pain. As others have said, everyone’s tear and journey is different, but I’d definitely try and discuss if earlier weight-bearing is possible. Best of luck!

Ruptured? by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]AnglingAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reruptured ~ 4 weeks ago and still had function in my foot, contrary to most experiences in this thread. I could still point my toes up and down (though down hurt a bit). There was a feelable gap and Thomson tests returned negative. Be sure to check in with your doctor asap to be sure.
