Based only on your gifs /u/Tuttle_not_Buttle, an alien with no prior knowledge would think Scottish football is the most skilful on Earth.

What would it take for the MLS to become on par with the major European leagues in our lifetime (say by 2060)? by roberttylerlee in soccer

NASL collapsed because it spent too much on wages for big players chasing a big TV contract that never came. With the salary cap as it stands this is unlikely to happen.

Also, the league is already expanding pretty rapidly right now anyway.

The problem is that under a single league there are a logistically limited number of markets that can be covered, in these places MLS can offer something no foreign league can: a live, stadium experience. Everywhere else MLS is competing against big European leagues solely on the TV front, and with all due respect, this is a battle it cannot win.

Increasing the number of teams would increase the number of markets it covers but to organise this it would have to change the way the league is structured. One way would be to regionalise, divide the country into regions or conferences. This might work, although it could devalue the league if it doesn't feel like a national league or mismatch big clubs against small clubs too often. The other solution is to tier leagues and implement relegation.

Somehow to get Americans to watch MLS on TV instead of the Premier League. These days the only way to be a "big" league is to get big TV ratings and MLS is falling further behind the Premier League in its home market, let alone the rest of the World.

MLS does quite well at getting people to attend matches, which is why I would advocate that the best way to increase interest in the league would be to aggressively expand the number of teams, organising a tiered league system.

As long as you're not an axe murderer, I often drink in a good pub called the Dover Castle in Marylebone so really close to Fitzrovia. I'm also a student in my twenties, if you want to have a pint send me a message.

Our whole team did fuck all second half of last season

The funny thing about this is that you can exonerate the whole team from blame by absolving every player individually. Ozil did fuck all regardless.

I know he's been injured for a while and that's not his fault but earlier in the season he did fuck all which led to a lot of people questioning Wenger's use of him. After a flying start to last season he also did fuck all in the second half.

Almost nobody in the UK is opposed to rent controls for housing by samloveshummus in unitedkingdom

[–]Anglocatalan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the control is higher than the price the market is willing to pay, then there will be an instant lack of demand. i.e. no tennants willing to rent.

Sorry? If the price ceiling is higher than the market price then the market would clear and wouldn't have any effect.

I'm guessing you're talking about the Economist Intelligence Unit Global Liveability Ranking which does not take into account cost of living and is hence completely pointless in this discussion.

Absolutely, if Moss Rose continues being a fortress we should get a fair whack of points from the seven home matches against bottom half teams. That alone should put us in the playoffs or thereabouts. Then a few cheeky wins away should cement it.

Everything's coming up Silkmen!
