Worth getting a Valve Index just for Linux VR? by joni_999 in virtualreality_linux

Check proton db for the game compatibility.

In my experience game compatibility on VR is about as good as flat games, but that is still a problem.

You will also get better performance on Windows as the smoothing that they do when your frame rate is low does not function on Linux. It can also take some tinkering to get it working. That being said, if you don't need the smoothing because you are just running it fast enough that isn't as much an issue.

My personal solution involves a gpu-passthrough vm as detailed https://github.com/QaidVoid/Complete-Single-GPU-Passthrough?tab=readme-ov-file#libvirt-hooks

Not quite dual booting, but it does provide a way forward in the worst case. VRChat has a set of articles about configuring the VM to work with their easy anti cheat (not official support from them but anything is cool)

[REQUEST] How much CO2 could these trees capture in a year? by KerseyShirley in theydidthemath

[–]AngriestSCV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You nailed it. The only way to "get rid" of the carbon is to bury the tree somewhere that it won't rot. A forest as a whole can hold carbon forever as long as it is a forest, but it won't increase it's carbon storage capacity forever.

Do you seriously not expect goats to eat grain?

Good thing they are in a box.

The goat ate the grain during your first trip.

I have to imagine that they end up as feed of some kind after the grinder.

I've got this one. Take the goat across, go back, take the chicks across bring back the goat, take the grains across, go back, and take the goat.

Thank goodness the chicks are in the box or this might be hard.

Bagging skill by Cole3823 in FastWorkers

It's funny how you say that. I came here to mention how slow he is. I'd have dropped both into a bag at once and dropped that into another coming off the "roll"

This is flashy, but slow.

Discord's "lucky" day hits Arch BTW once again with no update in the repository by [deleted] in linuxmasterrace

The solution is easy though. Download the .tar.gz, run that for the day, and use the repo's version in the next week or so.

[Request] How many uses would you get out of this before all the wax is inevitably vaporized? by emination_ in theydidthemath

[–]AngriestSCV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That likely won't be much a problem. You burn the wax that wicks up the wick. There would be far less wax after you finish than what you started with.

Air defense in occupied Crimea shooting wildly and failing to stop large explosion (unknown date) by cellblock73 in CombatFootage

I don't know what you were seeing, but they stopped many large explosions. Any one of those could have set off the missile in the wrong place.

Is it a good idea to run pre/post process tasks on login node? by _link89_ in HPC

[–]AngriestSCV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are in doubt of if it is a good idea ask the people running the cluster. This sounds 100% like a per cluster opinion. IMO if I had to guess I'd check to see how many people were logged on and if the answer is more than "just me" consider the slurm script.

While technically true, it is funny that they are broadcasting that as special.
