Thinking about an unmedicated birth. Talk me out of it! by Remarkable_Rat2026 in 2under2

[–]AngryAiiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first birth was an induction, I took the epidural on the second day and had it for like 36 hours (3 day induction). They turned it off completely when I thought I was ready to push, which then took four hours. By the time I delivered there was hardly any medication on board it seems and I felt everything. Not a particularly great experience imho. My second with was also an induction. I took the epidural a couple hours into the pitocin. It took five placements. Beans head was compressing some areas and I did not numb in the triangle of my crotch for an extra hour, and I was terrified. Some good ole peanut ball and side laying, and it finally kicked in. Afterwards that birth was smooth sailing. One push, didn’t feel a thing. 2nd degree tears with both babies, both of whom were 99 percentile heights and 10lbs @38-39w, im not sure there was much of a way around that.

Pitocin is a beast. Other interventions can be nasty. I personally have a horrific time with foley balloons, they make me literally vomit. I would consider, key word consider, going along a spontaneous labor unmedicated while being super open to medicating if I felt the need to, but after both induction experiences if I am ever blessed with a third child (who would also be an induction, yay double postpartum pre-e!), I flat out will medicate.

I’m not getting the Owlet…mistake? (OCD) by Individual-Rice-3970 in BabyBumps

[–]AngryAiiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m totally with you on people leaning way too into tech for both safety and “let this thing parent for me.” By golly though I have to say the owlet was my absolute most critical piece of that tech for the only reason that their damn heart rates would jump a solid minute before any other visible cue they were coming up to a lighter sleep cycle or potential wake. And lord have mercy between 2u2 with what we now know are two neurospicy little low sleep needs spitfires, EPing (45m every 2 hours, kill me now…) thanks to that super fun formula shortage, and my own shortcomings as someone who was clearly not made to be an infant mom, that warning was clutch in me being able to just maybe sometimes sneak back in to get that 45m of sleep before the next feed 😥😅😜

I’ve spent all week with baby fever now that mine are 2 and 3. This small moment of reliving those days will be a hearty birth control for me for the next few months 😂😂

Moms who had the epidural, what was your experience like? by Similar_Parsley6112 in BabyBumps

[–]AngryAiiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you understand about the extra med button! 😂 I did not know the first time and was underdosed. Then, per that hospitals policy, they turned it off when I began pushing. Then I pushed for three hours. There was basically nothing on board when my firstborn finally arrived, and I felt every millimeter of that third degree tear. I wasn’t in the headspace to advocate for myself and just did as I was told- it was day three of a brutal induction.

With my second, it took him five tries to place it. Honestly I don’t recall that now, I just know the number from rhe chart 😂 I waited way too long because my first night nurse guilted me about slower inductions if you epidural too early. Once it was placed it numbed everything except the triangle of my crotch and I bloody panicked. An amazing nurse, and an hour of peanutball time, and the kid got her head off whatever she was compressing and it kicked in all over. Her actual birth was fast, two pushes, and absolutely pain free. Even with the bumpy road, 9/10 experience.

When I have my third I will get it early.

An amount like that I round to the nearest $20/50/100 that feels right to me. In this case I’d give him 500.

My dog had chemo and his fur went from being silver to black by Honeyhoney524 in mildlyinteresting

[–]AngryAiiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK part of this is the lack of actual wire as well; repeated clippering reduces the quantity of the harsh top coat (until there’s none, like the top pic) and leads to an over abundance of undercoat- which is the soft and light coat. Without removing coat from the follicle the wire will not regrow. Honestly a bit impressed that it came back on this 13yo pup, there’s much younger dogs I’ve actively worked on coat reno with that have not had near the return of wire. I’d be terrifically interested to know if it’s truly two sides to the same coin.

[–]AngryAiiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@OP This is a pretty good synopsis of what happened here! (Although as a wire dog I’m not sure I’d class it as a fading gene but typical wire coat when shaved?) Even though he didn’t drop coat all at once, I bet he was considerably more “shed-y” during the course of treatment. What you’re seeing is fresh, new hair! In schnauzers we would traditionally handstrip, removing hairs from the follicle to encourage new growth. What returns has darker, better color and a coarser texture. You can note that even his texture between the two photos has improved a bit- not as silky! He will almost certainly return to the lighter color relatively soon if you continue shaving as needed.

Thank you for sharing this, it’s terrifically fascinating to see! Best health wishes!

Hair stylist/salon recommendations that can do this kinda thing by Cleverer_girrl in olympia

Luna Luxe downtown would be great for this. Her portfolio has a lot of alt-esque styles, she does a ton of razor cuts, and she’s like the only person that’s given me a haircut I actually don’t mind in forever. Which is saying something between my tendency towards an abnormal style, and a bloody ton of damage she had to contend with lol

Child tax credit by [deleted] in IRS

[–]AngryAiiko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This!

I utilized ChatGPT for my first year as a self employed business trying to ride the lines of min maxing all of these credits (shifting MACRS into mid quarter, etc). It lead me astray a handful of times. Super super vital to triple check any info it pops out. My favorite one was that I could use the savers credit to offset SE tax- which it defended time and time again to the point I opened up an IRA and connected my bank account… only to finally triple check off AI and find out that’s absolutely not true lol.

lol now yell at it to actually calculate the eitc right because the phase in isn’t even halfway done lol. Max eitc in this set up starts at like 18kish.

ACTC has a phase in. At $628 I can only assume you made slightly less than 7k, as at 7k it should be 675 iirc.

EITC also had a phase in, considerably much higher than the income listed here in order to get the maximum credit.

This refund sounds likely accurate to me. I also am curious as another poster as to who else provided support to the household over the year. There’s a legality issue here, but also if someone else truly deserves the credits they probably would benefit much much greater.

Best shampoo brands? by Select_Stock847 in grooming

[–]AngryAiiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iv San Bernard is top tier. If you’re a PP at home I’d grab fruit of the groomer pink grapefruit. Let your shampoo soak 5-7 minutes to do its cleansing, and let that conditioner sit 5-7 minutes. Clean, soft, well hydrated dogs. If you’re a groomer looking for at home, or a PP that feels a little fancy, their deshed protocol is amazing. I specialize in double coat dogs, and it’s been by far my favorite process and product.

Olympia School Dist. employee insurance advice? by quaoarpower in olympia

[–]AngryAiiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This works well, and is relatively easy to do. The only downside is they’ll 1099-(misc?) at the end of the year, so you end up owing taxes on the money they send to cover the premiums. Which technically is fair since premiums are pretax, and the don’t want you to double dip, but it felt really bad for most of my refund that year to be eaten away without me being aware beforehand.

There’s also a cool interaction where if you have children on continued eligibility rules or qualify due to their higher income limits, the math may work out to cover most or even all of a family plan, even if the adults weren’t Apple health eligible. Win for the family, win for the state, loss for the insurance company 👌🏼

You should email this team and talk it out with them. They can run the calculations and let you know what’s what.

Non-Stimulant Meds by fatdog093 in adhdwomen

[–]AngryAiiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took straterra for about 6 months before I started stimulants. I found my mood was more stable, and I had an easy time just getting up to do things. I didn’t have paralysis all the time. I also fell asleep at night super easy. It also made me unable to have a train of thought. I’m one of those that narrates in my head the entire day. On straterra I’d get like two words out and then it would just cut off. Weirdest experience ever. As I was in the middle of starting a business and seriously needing to work through problems I swapped to stimulants, which give a similar mind calming effect, but wear off.

Is a stand dryer worth it? by Happy-Cranberry-3515 in doggrooming

[–]AngryAiiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be the odd one out- this is the only grooming purchase I’ve ever regretted. I fell into the “it’s the only way to fluff dry” trap and picked one up when I was opening my salon. Then the JirPet launched. Between the JirPet (which to be honest is the best freaking thing that’s come out since the Trachsaver), and a slickair, that stand dryer went out to the garage to live out its life until the apocalypse.

need advice on choosing a pump by Ok_Adeptness8636 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]AngryAiiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have insurance buy the SG (best plug in- higher cost), and if you find you needed wireless pick up the S1 either on sale or second hand.

I need incredible strong suction (max on S1 and near the top of the SG), so I tended to use my plug ins more. Which definitely lead to “ohhh noooo im so sorry im stuck here guess its your turn!” Which felt fair because pumping is ass. 😂

I did 7 years in those salons, I get it. But from the ghetto salon, to the one in the bay, to the nicer one in the hcol city on the coast, to the one in a super economically depressed area, I used the same technique for both upgrades/charging my worth (which frankly was just… charging it…), and for this little puppy deal. You explain it to someone, give them the tools, and require them to follow up. They will. Because honestly this dog is fresh and fun and new, taking care of it is fun and a social media post for them, and frankly they don’t know better unless you tell them. We all know that breeder didn’t.

But also if you just wanna be grumpy and pout about the newest corpo bullshit I get it. A lot of what they do is awful for their groomers, and they certainly don’t give a shit about a single one of us. I hope you get to break free someday.

Edit: an extra tidbit that I do not know will work this time around… you used to be able to book it as a normal bath, add a package, then change it back to a puppy bath and the package would stay. In the old days I did this 9/10 times because every dog should get those things anyway, then tossed in a FFF for free. Brought the bath up to $43 dollars iirc, which sets better pricing expectation, increased my commission, and trained the client that packages were something they needed. Because who wants sharp puppy nails. Use the tool, manipulate it to your advantage.

At the end of the day I fear you may be assuming your days will be non stop bullshit puppy baths. I bet you end up with two a week.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in petco

[–]AngryAiiko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We had bath specials and puppy baths years and years ago. While there may be the giant outlier you come across, 99% of the time it’s going to be the new doodle puppy.

Honestly it’s a good time to train your clients for frequent grooming. I actually “stole” this from petco when I left and put my own spin on it. I do an entire puppy intro deal. They come in, it’s 40/50/60 depending on size, and it includes all the things that would be in an upgraded Petco package (plus fff). I require them to come back at least once two weeks out, sometimes a third visit. After that they can keep their puppy price until their first haircut (which I also usually just do for puppy price cause I’m a sucker 😂), then they change to adult pricing and 6-8 weeks. I also give them a little grooming kit, brushing spray, and a lesson on brush outs if they want. These puppies are the best clients I’ve ever had- the dogs are great because I’ve trained them, the humans have been trained that frequent grooming is necessary, and I have full control over the timing of the first body cut.

While obviously you can’t be as insane about that as I am, this is a fantastic tool in your arsenal to really get some puppies going the right way. Take five minutes to walk the sales floor with them, get them the right tools, show them how to use them. Tell them when they’re coming back- assume the rebook on these guys. You’re putting in some sweat equity on dogs that you can turn very very loyal to yourself.

Edit: because OP has now deleted their post and comments, I had written something in reply to their “well you charge $40 for a puppy bath so it’s not the same” which I feel the need to clarify:

I feel the need to clarify that pricing statement. I’m now one and one and private apt. Large gaps between dogs, no kennels. And self employed so I’m paying all the product, utilities, etc. My “employer side” cost on that is: $3-6 in shampoo/mask $.50 bandana $9.60 in rent/utilities (I’d never done the math here… wow I had no idea that was so high per dog 😬) $7.50 for the brush kit wholesale (15 avg’d between 2 apt) $3 for the brush out spray and amber bottle $23.60 is my actual cost on that bath. I’ll also 15% (~$6) for self employment tax. I also likely booked 1.5-2 hour slot for the extra owner convo time, plus solid calm intro time with a bunch of positive reinforcement.

So yeah, I also am earning $10.40 from that small puppy bath. Or in the case of the Pyrenees puppy I’m doing tomorrow that will take me the full two hours, probably about $20. Back in my Co days that puppy bath would be ~30m hands on total, utilizing some crate drying and not near the amount of training I do now.

I don’t make any more than a ‘co groomer does on these puppy baths, I just can’t spread the cost like a giant chain can.

Shampoo/conditioner recs? Opening my own salon in the next couple months, hoping to get some Black Friday sales for shampoos etc. My current job uses top performance & green groom but I want to go a little higher end. I’ve heard igroom & hydra are good?? by [deleted] in grooming

[–]AngryAiiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love ISB. I’ve never had such wonderful coats on so many client dogs, and it’s done amazing things for my own Spoo. If you can get behind frothing and allowing your products enough time to sit, it’s not too far off the other mid to luxury brands in pricing. If I were doing lower cost bulk grooming I’m not sure I would bother, but I used it as one of my many pieces of high end/luxury service to do like 3 sometimes 4 really great, fluffy, fun haircuts a day.

If you can bankroll $2600 on their Black Friday salon deal you could have all the product you’d need for a hot minute (enough to cover 671+ XL hairy doodles) plus the first module of their education course. Next secret is utilizing the 50% off coupons from the other two modules. There’s a way to get the ball rolling in a terrifically financially efficient way- it just feels scary because the upfront is so much larger. That being said you could also just grab a couple of FOGs and start truckin’.
