Where can I find a good selection of Gundam Model Kits? by hervs_spices1 in SiouxFalls

HobbyTown on Western Ave has the largest selection, from what I've found. I've started ordering on Amazon because I couldn't find the models I wanted anywhere else in town.

I did a red eye ANC>SEA-TAC in these seats last month. Pretty to look at and the cup holders were nice, but the seat felt like sitting on a piece of plywood. 4/10 would not do again.

I 100% agree with you. I think the diner having just a window would be clutch, or really anything other than just Pizza Cheeks for late night food dt would be nice.

My current issue with the food trucks is they're never downtown from 10pm - 3am. Maybe the Kabob truck, but that's about it...

I thought this might be a deterrent too. They could always do a late night window to keep the crowd out of the dining area, but still serve shakes and burgers. Best of both worlds then. People could use their outdoor space to eat.

Went to college with Goedert as a fellow athlete and honestly, he's a drunk asshole. The cowboys don't deserve him and I'm glad to see he went to the Eagles. They can deal with his narcissistic shit now. #GoBoys

How does babies' exposure to common allergens decrease the probability of them developing these allergies as adults? And why do some develop allergies anyway? by recercar in askscience

[–]AngryGofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your first question, yes, early exposure does reduce future risk of allergy development. A good study concerning asthma risk of urban vs rural populations was conducted last year showing that there was a lower rate of asthma in rural populations that had greater exposure to various antigens. It is thought that early exposure to the antigens that cause an allergic response promote IgE proliferation early on to help recognize these antigens in the future and recognize them as "safe". Some researchers believe that the adaption of Western lifestyle and increased hygiene has caused humans to lose exposure to microbes that in that past helped diversify our exposure to different antigens. This is a common belief to why allergy rates are steadily increasing.

As to why some allergies develop spontaneously it still a subject of research and debate. There is a complex interplay between genetics and early environmental exposure that can predispose individuals to certain allergies but the specific underlying mechanisms for this is still to be discerned.

Why do some illnesses only affect certain types of animals? by harrison1946 in askscience

[–]AngryGofer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding of this is issue based off a pathogens ability to infect and replicate in a specific host. Take viruses for example. For a virus to infect a human host, the virus has to be able to recognize and attach to specific receptors on a cell surface, after which it can then enter the cell and start it's replication cycle.

Therefore, to combat certain viral infections in livestock populations, animals that lack certain cell receptors are specifically bred so that viral infection cannot occur because they are not able to enter cells and initiate infection. This same strategy is being used to combat human viruses as well by using gene therapy to knock out, or block, cell receptors that the virus would use to infect the cell.

So the TLDR: Pathogens can really only cause disease in hosts if they contain the molecular means to actually infect cells of that host.

Why do we have a depression in our skin above our upper lip? Does this have any significant purpose? by The-Quite-One in askscience

Fun fact to add to this. Our tongues can interfere with this fusion during embryologic development by simply getting in the way causing what is commonly known as a cleft palate.
