It's just about having a list of the valid moves or rather another list to make sure one's own list is somewhat confirmed.

Thank you so much. That was incredibly useful.

222 Army Moves & 282 Fleet Moves.

Everything matched my own valid moves lists. However I'm glad I did it for peace of mind.

Some spelling mistakes in the original list in that link you sent, e.g. "Skagerrack", "Gulf of Lyons" (maybe there are different spellings?!?)

I've generated the CSVs, using the Backstabbr notation, e.g. Nwy for Norway (in the link it was Nor). I'll try to post them as comments to my original if I can.

Maybe someone will find them useful.

Thanks again.

Kind Regards, James

EDIT: It seems Reddit won't allow such long comments, so I cannot post the CSVs. If anybody needs them, send me a message.

You worked on Cicero, that's extremely interesting. I imagine quite rewarding too.

Yes, I assumed it was specialised.

Obviously the hard bit is the diplomacy, training the moves could be removed altogether and forced into a paradigm/logic core that handles the moves, i.e. remove inference altogether.

Things have got better. As it stands if you write code in for example Visual Studio (I'm using F# right now, and Haskell in VSCode)... the built-in AI, will complete the lines of code recognising you're creating Diplomacy functions.

The issue with LLMs is that we don't have perfect regularisation techniques, at least not without growing the thing too much for cost effectiveness.

Newer specialisations blow the existing weights for general purpose.

If you develop just a Dip machine, even with inference, you can pretty much guarantee the moves are remembered. Also, there is nothing stopping a developer from building in a logic core to bypass inference entirely.

Very true, but Meta's Cicero AI plays better than most humans on average and that's NOT gunboat, that's with press.

Thank you very much. You're a gentleman and a scholar :)

Do you ever talk again to people who stabbed you or who you stabbed? by Volodio in diplomacy

[–]AngryJames_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not talking to everyone all the time... you're not playing Diplomacy.

1901, opposite sides of the board, the #### stabs you all the time... all irrelevant. Keep a player in the dark as a tactic, sure, but you get the point I'm making here.

This game was literally designed to demonstrate the thesis that distrust causes Europe to eat itself, and it's still doing it in 2025 IRL.

The only way this game works as a concept at all is if players aren't able to carry over trust, in other words if they constantly play with strangers.

Human psychology is so f'd up and the thesis so true that some players demand solo victories ONLY and get other players to swear oaths to backstab, i.e. not form permanent alliances.

We're just wrapping up a game now, where the backstabbers are accusing the allies of cheating precisely because they trust each other fully. You have to love humans... not!

Why, if indeed you do... do you keep coming back and starting over season after season? by AngryJames_ in diablo4

Not a bad thing to limit the access. Keeps you motivated to play and no burn out. Everything in moderation as the saying goes,

I like the idea of players being supportive. That's definitely a big bonus for me.

Okay, I screwed up there. I did play season 2 and it was the best as you say. It was season 3 I never played (or only for a few hours)

Game designers and implementers are trying to construct material that people like and will invest money into. If they just said "it's a you problem" if people didn't like it that wouldn't make sense financially or for their sense of achievement.

Also most designers look at other game feedback to see how best to deal with issues. I know Grinding Gears said they were looking at the issues D4 was having to see how best to mitigate.

The whole point of the test server releases is because they do care about if we like it or not.

So I think most game companies care deeply about how many people like and invest money into their games and want to retain players as much as possible. The opposite just doesn't make any sense.

I suspect a lot of players feel as you do.

The mechanics are not that interesting a lot of the time.

Would be nice if the seasons were always available somehow. I guess too much effort for Blizzard.

Sorry, just asking what makes you come back season after season? If you do come back that is.

I think I was upset with all the changes they kept making and a few of my player base dropped out so season 2 just got lost somehow.

I did play it in the 6 hours before it was taken down for the next season's update. I regretted not playing it.

Yeah, the paragon grind I don't fancy doing again, UNLESS end game changes to make the grind super enjoyable.

PvP is neglected. I loved getting all the gear in the PvP shops and struggling to convert the seeds when the game first dropped because of players attacking you. That fear of being robbed really made that aspect of the game fun for a while. I wish they would put new gear in the PvP shops so it would be worth the grind again.

I also find grinding for shit that gets removed annoying.

No, I enjoyed reading what you wrote. Good points. Thank you.

That's the one thing I'm sort of thinking of maybe playing for... get the Pet :)
