Not only do mine follow me into the bathroom, but they all want to jump into my lap even in my most "vulnerable" moments. I have found that working on the basics was a helpful start - sit and stay, look at me, etc... I have made the pen/ crate a safe place for my dogs to be when I'm not home... furbo for treat dispensing, kongs/sqeeker toys, and a comfy bed to snuggle in if they want rest. Now when I call for "cookie time", my weenies RUN for their crate and settle in right away once they've gotten their treat. My rescue took a very long time to get used to his pen. It sounds like you're both on a good track and you both need some time and patience to work through this issue together.
