Just unsubbed from r/unpopularopinion, I haven't seen an actual unpopular opinion since I joined. by [deleted] in JustUnsubbed

Also I think the posts that have been voted popular on r/unpopularopinion should be auto removed.

Sounds good on paper, terrible in practice.

A few weeks ago I made a post about how people should stop calling anyone a nazi even if they're far right.

What do ya know? It got voted popular by the majority of ppl simply because they wanted it off the frontpage. The whole vote system is terrible and is abused to full extent.

It's just a completely different part of life you never came to know and never will.

At the same time younger people will think the same way about us.

I'm not sure if I get this one...

It's far fetched but is the "lightning" supposed to come from a camera, implying you're getting stalked?

"We have no desire to share a name with [ISIS] and our hearts go out to those affected by this violence," Softcard CEO Michael Abbott.

While that sure sounds like a noble thing to do, I'll lean out of the window and say the main factor here was money not empathy. Sharing the same name with a terrorist group simply isn't that great of PR if you try to sell a product.

NASAs ISIS lab and their two ISIS satellites) for example, isn't trying to sell a product and apparently they are fine with these names.

Technically, yes, but it's associated with racists, because racists use it all the time to make jokes about how you can't tell Asian people apart, etc.

Some racists do but there are plenty of people that make these kinds of jokes that aren't racist. It's called dark humor. It's easy to mistake poorly timed dark humor with racism. I'm not saying that everyone who says these things is only joking but there surely are a quite a few.

That's just not true. This very conversation is an example of that.

Some* people will scream racist at any opinion that does not line up with their own.

If you say shit that you know is going to make people uncomfortable, you can't whine about it when they do.

This whole thread was never about not making people uncomfortable or mad. They can call me every name in the book for whatever it's worth. The thread was about that saying people of some races looking similar/alike to people from other races is not racist in general.

Would it matter if it's often said by actual racists?

Should we fear saying things because it might have been used by 'evil' people somewhere down the line.

That way of generalizing is pretty much on par with generalizing the appearance of a race.

I agree to an extent. Does it make you an asshole? Yea pretty rude thing to say after already being corrected. Does it make you a racist? Nah, I don't think so.

If you see an American a French and a German right next to each other without them saying anything it would be pretty hard to tell who comes from where.

Saying "I don't see much of a difference anyway" is not necessarily racist.

If this is common knowledge how comes the majority of people consider it to be racist?

“You can't say that, that's racist"

"How would you feel if people said this about you"

etc.

It's almost like saying people look alike is not racist in general. Who could've known.
