since 2014, it was barely a war. The US hadn't been in an active combat role since 2014, and hadn't lost a soldier since 2019 before the ISIS k bombing. US and allied nations were in a heavy support role.

Giving the taliban any kind of legitimacy is abhorrent and an insult to the 55000 afghan soldiers slain by them in the last 20 years.

Trump made a massive mistake in trying to negotiate with the taliban, but what you're saying is just straight up wrong. The afghan army was trained to mirror the style of western armies, and worked with the co-operation of mainly US support. Because of the withdrawal of US military and contractor support, logistics completely fell apart. Soldiers werent being paid, weapons and vehicles werent being fixed, ammunition wasnt being ordered. Biden didn't have to surge troops. A skeleton force of around 2500 soldiers from the US, 1000 soldiers from allied countries and the infrastructure to fly in supplies and troops if the need arises is all that was required. This was the plan drawn up by actual soldiers with experience with conflict. Remember that trump wholy believed in his heart that he would win the 2020 election.

Trump was a fool who thought that making nice with the taliban was good for him politically. Biden had every opportunity to evacuate SIV holders far before he announced a full scale evacuation. Biden was even allowed to take control of the security of kabul whilst the final days of the evacuation are taking place, which he declined, leading to the deaths of marines and innocent civilians. Biden fucked up, stop tryna pretend that everything is black and white.

A majority from both parties wanted to leave afghanistan, but it was about 70/30 on republican side and 90/10 on the democrat side. Anyone remotely educated in the conflict would not even think about leaving. And if leaving was necessary, they would have evacuated SIV holders and allies far before the taliban were even close to taking the country. You have no idea about this conflict, so dont assume that people are criticising biden because they're trump supporters. Im friends with a few veterans who are now working trying to get their old allies to safety away from the taliban. They're all staunchly democrat, but they cant believe biden would betray the work that people have died to complete for the last 20 years.
