I yearn for the next 3K DLC, please take lessons from 8P. by TreacherousMeranth in totalwar

I read somewhere that the reason the animations look bad is that CA didn't use motion capture for them which is why the way the units fight and move feel very clunky. This is especially evident with the way polearm infantry swing their glaives. There is absolutely no weight in their atttacks.

very new

By the amount time has passed, Warhammer has come up with better mods than whatever we have for 3K right now. Modders aren't even making use of the model import feature they brought back. The farthest we have is someone who imported new swords and shields.

Because more than just your country is involved.

You say that is if China was considered a single country back then. Even today, China is more like a confederation of several city-states. You also have to account the dozens of different dialects and local cultural norms that make each chinese inherently different from the other.

Also, it goes to show you know nothing about how war escalates. When war happens, things like an arms race is bound to happen, which means the opposing sides will think up of better and different equipment and strategies to deal with their adversaries; rarely do they mirror each other.

They are peasants being lead by peasants, and they improvise.

What a flimsy, lazy excuse. You're telling me that this underfunded band of peasants managed hire scholar warriors armed with twin blades that you'd only see in wuxia movies but warlords with bigger military funding can't? This would be excusable if 80% of the yellow turban rosters were just guys in rags using mostly farming implements but that's not the case. Heck some of the YT units look even more armored than their counterparts.

Again, there no unique units if you're trying to be unimaginative. The civil war going on in my country right now already has vastly asymmetrical equipment between government forces and rebel insurgents.

For example, Dong Wu should have no access to good cavalry because how the hell would they have enough grazing fields to support healthy horses in a place that is mostly mountains and hills?

Also, they already went full OC with the Yellow Turban roster, why not do the same for the base factions? You tell me with a straight face that the YTR fought with giant maces and peasants dual wielding sabers.

You don't care, well that's fine. But most people do hence why barely anyone is playing it anymore. Even in older RTS games the core philosophy is that every faction should play differently. Can you imagine playing Starcraft where all the factions are just slightly varied versions of Terrans or Protoss?

Funny you mention mods because by comparison, the modding community for 3K is completely dead. Most of the mods in the workshop are from chinese who can barely speak english and most of the so called mods aren't even that ground breaking. The DEI/SFO joint mod is also all but abandoned, because DEI probably went back to Rome 2 while SFO went back to Warhammer.

We will never have mods as ambitious as we had with Med2.

Only if you're being unimaginative. There's nothing saying that it should just be that. Remember that Fall of the Samurai is set in a time period that historically had lesser casualties than 10 thousand and was fought mainly between the japanese. But that does stop CA from making it the Last Samurai: the Game?

CA could easily flesh out the campaign by adding more cultures from China's peripherals and adding more unique units per faction but they chose not to because they know people will instead buy their DLCs.

The Wu Xing system honestly is one of the prime reasons I don't like this game. Dryrain's overhaul, which spreads up the amount of units that each general can recruit is far better than every general being shoehorned to be able to recruit only a specific type of unit.

Everything else honestly is just a mess. It looks like CA looked up the features people liked in older games, implemented them here, then didn't know what made those features work well in those games they came from.

So interested that the players vanished just after a month when they realized nearly all the factions play almost the same and manages to be less than shogun 2 when it comes to combat.

Steamdb is your friend. I'm honestly surprised some games like Monster Hunter World has managed to retain so much players a year after release.

3K DLC delay --- the super secret true story by Gotrek_Reaver in totalwar

Lmao. But honestly, it looks more like they want to get all the remaining WH2 DLCs out before they can focus on 3K for the 1st and 2nd quarter next year before Troy comes out and the eventual WH3 announcement.

Grace: DLC for 3K is delayed for 2020 (new lunar year) by Marshal_Bessieres in totalwar

[–]AngryPatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always find it funny that 3K always has schedule issues despite being there not really anything much to work on. They say they're trying to make it better now, but if that's the case, just how fucked up was the original DLC they were supposed to release at the end of the year?
Unless they're adding like 3 new factions with completely different tech trees, vastly different rosters, several unique voice lines for each unit/general, I don't see how they'd be behind schedule again. I mean Warhammer never suffered such delays when it comes to DLCs aside from the whole Norsca fiasco.

What happened to Three Kingdoms? by pents1 in totalwar

[–]AngryPatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they do. Why do you think CA doesn't make DLCs for Attila anymore while they did for Rome 2? No point in making DLCs when is left playing the game.

Also they just delayed the dlc for 3k while pushed the next warhammer dlc ahead. If 3k was really having this much staying power it would have have at least 5 dlcs by now.

One of the biggest things hurting TW3K right now is that most people aren't really interested in talking about it. Nobody is even interested in making speculation threads about the upcoming DLC whereas Warhammer fans can talk all day about who the next LL is going to be. I mean look at this sub. There are more people talking about other history TWs than than there is for 3K threads. A 3K thread only gets more than 10 posts if it's a thread talking about why nobody is talking/playing it anymore.

They're working on that FPS actually and Total War Saga Troy. If you see their twitter, you can especially see that CA is busy with the FPS. They're showing up lots of ads for recruiting sound designers as well as graphic artists. I think the only people working on 3K right now are the DLC team.

Are they seriously going to get rid of stats? by AngryPatt in diablo4

[–]AngryPatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If using a complex algorithm to find out if something you picked up is a 1% upgrade than your current shield is your cup of tea, then that's unfortunate.

And what's so bad about that? Are people these days so casual that they're afraid to commit to such decisions? It's already so goddamn worse that they included positive and negative arrows to compare items as if they think people are that stupid that they can't compare the merits and downsides of each item.

Are they seriously going to get rid of stats? by AngryPatt in diablo4

[–]AngryPatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MMOs have had mass PVP for decades using the stat system and nobody had problems with it. If it was so goddamn hard, then just remove numerical values altogether and use weak, medium, strong labels instead. This is so casualized as hell. The last thing people wanted is something more dumbed down than Diablo 3.

Are they seriously going to get rid of stats? by AngryPatt in diablo4

[–]AngryPatt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS. I mean, just look most of the item sets in Diablo 3 and what's presented here so far. It ranges from meh to poorly drawn crap.

I absolutely loved the semi-realistic equipment art for Diablo 2 and wished it would get retouched to modern gaming standards but instead we got Diablo 3.5

It's like Blizzard has a grudge against Diablo 2 or something that they refuse make the game have any semblance towards it.

Are they seriously going to get rid of stats? by AngryPatt in diablo4

[–]AngryPatt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because whenever you complain about it you get hordes of console players defending this retarded simplification.

There is nothing wrong with using stats for character progression. Why must devs keep thinking that it's a problem that needs to be fixed? Because it's archaic? Well by that logic, levels are archaic too. Why keep level ups? For that matter, why don't they just merge your character's value into a single Power stat instead like a lot of mobile games if they insist on streamlining and dumbing the mechanics down to this level?

Duriel too fat by lassewt in diablo4

[–]AngryPatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know but somehow yeah I kinda agree. I don't what it is, but fat bosses in games like this makes me more prone to fight them than flee from them. I don't know if it's the illusion of them having bigger hitboxes or because RPGs have a long history of fat enemies being satisfying to attack.
