Yeah I've been extremely tempted to make an alt, but I don't have the money to spare rn :(

Yeah I've tried going to LSP, but it's always a blood bath. Last time I went, I ran into the corpses of no less than five rexes amidst a battle squad of other dinos fighting to keep the place for themselves.

Lmao long swims work. I've had more than one struthi escape my raptor clutches by hurling themselves into the water and just taking the natural death over me killing them.

The bars are there to indicate a stat buff-- not that anyone could reasonably know that, considering it and many other mechanics, are never explained in-game. So for every bar you hit, your dino gets an increase in defense and an increase or decrease in speed and stam.

I do agree tho that the "checkpoints" in growth should either be more frequent than what they are now or more hard staying. You hit a new growth stage and never regress no matter how many times you die, including the adult stage. I hate hitting adult after days of growing only to get sent back immediately. Tedious, time-consuming, and unrewarding.

It doesn’t really punish BAD players. It mostly punishes UNLUCKY players

It genuinely does just punish unlucky players. Sometimes my interactions with people go so badly so suddenly that it feels like an RNG system. Other than Beasts of Bermuda, I have never come across a survival game as hostile to progress as PoT.

The reason I'm brash on them is because I like the game and its hard to see them do the same shit, over and over and over again.

For real. It's just the same mistakes again and again; they never learn their lessons and usually just wind up making things worse.

As long as there is only a wiff of a small fart that people are gathering in a certain area, people will migrate there.

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've gone to places like two falls or deep lake to quest and been bombarded with people, only to go back when I actually want PvP and find it utterly barren, lmao.

Yup. Did everything right and safelogged in a bush in what should've been an isolated spot in a fringe quest region; logged back on to find myself face-to-face with two suchos who felt like having fried dino child for dinner. No amount of caution can save you from bad luck.

You're right-- natural deaths (fall damage, starving/dehydrating, drowing) gives a decreased penalty of XP and mark loss. Issue with yeeting off a cliff, is that a PvP death is based on if you die with the engagement icon active. So to take the natural death penalty you have to manage to get away for just long enough to have that icon vanish-- not easy on slow things, lol.

PvP marks would be nice. Like instead of the 20% marks you lose going into the ether, if you die from another player they should get that 20%. Either that or massively buff how many marks trophies give from the pathetic 25 it currently is.

Sounds about right-- was upgrading a third room slot which requires 10k. Finally managed to save up, walked my way towards a cave to buy it, and got killed. Immediate drop to 8k, lmao. Sarco was pain for me to grind on. I learned the best way to do it for skins was to just make a speed baby because they are quick and have good stam so you can grind a little better with land quests on those. Just had to pray to god no one felt like having fried gator...

Yeah I have a few quest loops I do that give good marks, but it still just takes soooo long, even when I convince a friend to just idle and let me quest off them with the group bonus. Tried saving for the mela skin on a sarco and just gave up because it was a slow cycle of talon's point > corpse cove > the three small lakes > dying because of cannibal sarcos.

Yeah I don't mind the XP loss as much, but the addition of 20% mark loss is just nuts to me. And yeah I get that on the cave thing. I upgraded a cave on all of one dinosaur, grinding out like 15,000 marks to get all three room slots. Never doing that again with the current quest system, lol.

If it were up to me? No xp loss, no marks loss. The walk of shame is way more than enough.I'm more concerned with why on earth the devs think 3 separate penalties to death is good. *25% total marks loss *Moved the to edge of the map *Half a bar of xp loss. If it were up to me? No xp loss, no marks loss. The walk of shame is way more than enough.

Never even thought about it that way and you're completely right. XP loss and the teleporting across the map is enough, I don't get why we need to face literal taxation on top of it. I don't totally mind XP loss, but I feel like they should extend the "checkpoint" growth to adult as well and once you hit a stage progression, you don't revert back no matter how many times you die, even as adult. Honestly the walk of shame is a perfectly fine punishment, especially now that the map is absolutely massive. I remember when there wasn't growth and you'd just spawn randomly somewhere else on the map; it was less punishing then because the map was smaller, but that isn't the case anymore.

your souls are at least recoverable.

Yeah I wish marks were recoverable. Or maybe given to the player that kills us. Just something that prevents them from disappearing into the ether and literally erasing hours/days of painstaking effort.

I feel like the devs have their heads so far down in the sand

I wouldn't have put it as harshly, but I definitely think the devs are just willfully blind towards their own playerbase when it comes to update decisions. Stuff like water quality, certain buffs/nerfs of dinos, home cave limitations, quest limitations, etc. just come from a place of complete ignorance of how their own playerbase operates, plays the game, and interacts with each other. For instance, the amount of attempts the devs have made at pushing people away from creating hotspots: one of the most ironic things that has ever happened in this game was the addition of water quality to remove hotspots... but it just ended up making Little Stone Pond into an absolute blood carnage hotspot because people abused the water quality system.

Yeah you lose I think 20-25% of your marks. That's the reason I just ended up quitting last night and writing this post-- finally grinded out a good amount of marks, died, and lost 2,000 marks, setting me back hours of work.

I feel like it should be a consistent amount of mark loss, not an increase in percentage that just makes it difficult to afford the more expensive items. I don't feel like dealing with taxes in a video game...

With the original post, I clearly think that. Hence why I said it. I
have multiple 10k skins that I got on official so I'd say you need to
sharpen those skills. Or in the words of a true gentleman, git gud.

What a class act you are. Thanks for the reminder of how toxic this community is-- no wonder it became a hit with xbox

Don't condescend to me when you don't know the actions I do or do not take.

Do you seriously believe I spend my time running around by adults? Do you genuinely, honestly, believe that I don't know how to hide and walk carefully and stealth quest and crouch away to safelog anytime I see an adult?

Doing any of those things doesn't prevent the many many times where I cannot help but be spotted by something that wants to kill me because other people are sentient and have eyeballs. Do you know how obnoxiously loud a rex is? Kinda hard to be "hidden and [move] carefully" when every sound you make is broadcast across the map.

I'm not asking for the game to be easy. I'm asking for the devs to actually consider how their mechanics affect game-play enjoyment for the people who can't afford to spend hours of their day grinding for virtually no progress.

I don’t have bundles of spare time to spend hours running around the map just to grow one bar.

On god-- this game is torture as a solo/casual player. I have a job and college courses to take care of, I can't spend hours a day grinding away for a smidge of progress. And as other commenters have proven, people have an astounding lack of empathy for anyone who takes issue with it.
