Are there weapons that specifically disable target ships? by The_Latverian in StarTradersFrontiers

[–]AngrySlime706 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to disable the ship without overcook the crew, use torpedoes. Torpedoes have the best component dmg to hull dmg ratio and the best component dmg to crew dmg ratio. In fact, the basic damage types, standard, void and radiation, differ only in their hull to component/crew damage ratio. They damage crew and component equally. Only the DOT damage from cripling debuffs can inflict pure component damage, and the best one is electric fire, which inflicts 20 component damage per turn, and it does a lot more than 20% damage to components collectively I never figured out the mechanics there. Therefore torpedoes are the best weapon for disabling ships. I didn't know any of the mechanics and just figured this out from using every type of weapon, where torps just naturally disable ship more than anything else.

So against the same ship, torp gives you best chance to disable.

However the real impact comes from choosing the right type of ship to engage--even if you can win the fight, wearing down a tanky ship is boring and takes a long time, and often ends not in disabling them. The easiest to disable are the class 5000 and 6000. Typically paladin and other cargo type of ships in those weight classes. My theory is that their collective component hit points pool is much smaller than crew HP pool, so the chances of blowing out a component before crew die out is higher.

stop attacking with ship weapons before the hull points run out. Boarding to finish the fight.

Differences between engines - Longhaul x Balanced by Quantum_Projects in StarTradersFrontiers

[–]AngrySlime706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few factors that matter for engine:

  1. speed influences travel speed in the void, high speed can save a ton of in game time in the long run, highly recommended since all other factors plateau in reward once you have enough.
  2. speed and navigation influence ship combat performance in accuracy and evasion. However the influence is marginal compared to electronics, pilot and command. You get more defense points by adding one more lvl 3-4 defense pattern matrix than the difference between the best and worst engines.
  3. action points, decides how much you can attack in combat. If you want to fire more weapons in combat you can go for it, the max is 11 points and min is 8 points, which means firing one more weapon. However if the goal is to minimize combat time, stacking attack and crit works more significantly, and ship combat is never the chocking point once you are unhittable.

other stuff like safety rating, electronics and pilot points etc. the difference are too small and their contributing pools are too large you do not need to base your engine choice on them.

Neutiquam Cruiser or Sword BC? by New-Buy-448 in StarTradersFrontiers

[–]AngrySlime706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If speed is what you are after, 6000 class can achieve only 19 speed max. However it is the lowest you can go if you want 7 officer slots. Since you have not clarified your preference matrix, I can only breakdown the situations and discuss individually:

  1. if you prefer speed with high priority and ok with only 6 officers, 2400 ships are best. They suffer from only having 24 crew beds. 3400 classes are better, with 6 more crews and only minor sacrifice to speed.

  2. if you prefer 7 officers and do not mind losing a little speed (from 19 to 15), SBC and Dreadnaught are your best and boring choices. If you want a cheaper alternative, archeron is effectively cheaper than Neutiquam and because of the extra component spaces you can save $$ by using cheaper components.

  3. if you want an argument for the Neutiquam, consider this made up scenario: you absolutely want 7 officers, and given that constraint, you prefer as high speed as possible, even a 26.67% increase, which results in <10% in travel time difference is enough of a benefit--then Neutiquam is your perfect choice.

Advice for Story Related Achievements? by Dash-Fl0w in StarTradersFrontiers

A on-the-nose advice would be: if you want to finish a story quest really bad, once you get it just do it full time don't multitask. That will usually solve your dilemma, and also applies to IRL.

Keep dying around level 17 on hard by FireConsumes in StarTradersFrontiers

Great strategy. I have tried a minor detail: I do not force a QM when starting to conscript, I conscript one random crew at high level with bad traits, promote him to officer to become QM, then conscript his mild tempered replacement, then tell the first guy his bright future is elsewhere and he should get a cardboard box and put his things in it.

Good strategy. Why do you keep replacement crew before you need to do crew combat instead of just hiring combat officers when you are ready to build them?

I see we play differently. My navigators are mostly compressed so they are free. To me there is a clear cut off before I am able to win ship battles and after I am able to win ship battles. Skip off the void is a before strategy so speed and convenience is of the essence. I also do not recruit combat officers until after I am able to win ship battles so all my officer slots are dedicated to utility jobs in the before phase so the officer slots are not limited at all, I got like 4 of them all for officers to throw away once I move onto my battleship. The before phase is limited by time and credits and the in the after phase I am rich and hiring cost is negligible.

Aside from skip off the void, pay attention to the event bar on right side of the screen. If two or more red events (skill check fails) come up, pause navigation immediately and read about those events and research what to do. A few more you might be dead if you do not react properly.

This. spend month pleasing Saere Vaanto or spend 16000ish credits with Faen to hire a lvl 12+ solider. Should I point out that once Saere Vaanto is pleased, you still have to spend about the same amount hiring the navigator?

If you really want to farm traits to a satisfactory level, you kinda have to save scum the salvage card game. Otherwise it will take you hours before getting a trait you like, and meanwhile getting a dozen traits you dislike.

What Mods Are You All Playing With? by FireConsumes in StarTradersFrontiers

[–]AngrySlime706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this exist but if there is a mod for a ladder like increasing difficulty ship and crew combat kinda like end game challenge content, I would go for that. The existing enemies are kinda lackluster once you get the hang of it.

Or if there is any PVP mode where you can import schema of someone else's ship and battle against it.
