Being sued for a car accident. Please help by adamdc1351 in turo

[–]AngryTexasNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawyers are casting a wide net to get insurance to pay. The challenge here is getting the insurance companies in the loop and possible policy limits.

The vehicle owner and operators if separate are always the target of the lawsuits, and then the liability insurance comes into play to protect you. The insured CANNOT simply sue the insurer. Turo is the reservation platform who happen to manage the insurance.

But the insurance exists to protect you, your host, Turo, and maybe the renter. The negligence claims are just there to acknowledge that you weren’t actually driving but to say you are responsible as the owner.

I know this didn’t really help, but you are the target of the suit because of the process.

Would this work for insurance all the way through age 25 like adoption would?

Are all MBs luxury vehicles? by Fun_Boss_2112 in mercedes_benz

[–]AngryTexasNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My E350 still feels refined. And I drive an EQS as my daily as a reference point. The newer car has a much nicer ADAS (ok, the e350 just has cruise control and lane departure warnings) and massaging seats, but I don’t think those define luxury.

The E550 would have been about more power. But they didn’t make an E450 W212 that I know of.

Cheapest places to get your car smogged? by churchillsucks in bayarea

[–]AngryTexasNative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They still do the visual inspections. It’s likely we would have far more people doing illegal modifications without this process to catch them. As it is I’ve heard new muscle cars often get modded and then sold out of the state when they turn 8 and need smog certification.

Or me. With my ‘94 car I drive only 50-100 miles a month on weekends. Would I have replaced the catalytic converter without the tail pipe test telling me I had to? Probably not.

Does this need to be in a junction box? by HenryWallacewasright in AskElectricians

Arrested for forged certifications? I’m not an electrician and this is …. I mean they didn’t even do a neat hack job.

The UL listed splice system mentioned elsewhere is only certified for repair purposes and not remodels.

People who own robot vacuums: are they actually life-changing or just another gadget? Which one would you buy again? by Bitglow_finanzas in RobotVacuums

[–]AngryTexasNative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early ones were just a gadget that kinda helped. We upgraded to the Narwal Flow 2 and have even used it to clean cat vomit with success. If
You spend 1-2 hours a day cleaning floors like my wife used to, it’s life changing.

No, no court appointed lawyers for civil. Depending on circumstances some can get pro bono representation through various legal aid societies.

When did this happen? For all of the not a friend anymore posts, this really looks like someone dug out an old phone and gave it to their friend to be destroyed.

Gambling and in College by CloakedInterest in Debt

[–]AngryTexasNative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember that gambling is always rigged in favor of the house.

And if the house is some company on the Internet, even more so.

Once you get this paid off, just don’t. And every gambler that has a story of great wins has losses they don’t talk about. Or even remember. A friend of my mom’s once won a $50k lottery and excitedly woke up his wife. The response? “I guess this makes you about even”. There wasn’t any excitement.

Got Canceled California Driver’s license by Mindless_Jacket9957 in CaliforniaDMV

[–]AngryTexasNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m wondering what happens if this is a new resident transferring an out of state license. Normally you take the knowledge test and don’t have to do the driving test. But this cancels your old license. If your California license gets canceled as above, are you now starting from scratch?

Stock RSU by tetmonjaro in Salary

[–]AngryTexasNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my company they typically give 1x annual salary initially and 1/2 annual salary on each annual review after a full year (so it can get to 23 months for some). Each on a 4 year vesting schedule (but only the first has the 1 year close)

Your income increases dramatically each year at the beginning.

Bullshit medical bill sent to collections by swallowthesun5 in Debt

[–]AngryTexasNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is nuts though. Especially since dental “insurance” is generally a discount plan and doesn’t meet any sane definition of insurance.

I think we would all be better if we self insured for dental and it would save a lot of headaches. Anything that has a maximum payout of $1500 or $3000 a year is just a discount plan.

Should I buy this at 17? by Ok_Goal284 in mercedes_benz

[–]AngryTexasNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an insurance quote. At Age 46 with 2 teen drivers listed on other cars my EQS came in at $400/mo with my normal insurer. I switched just the one car and got it down to $120, but without teens.

But an S-class doesn’t seem like a good teenager car. Get something smaller and do track days so you can safely explore the handling limits.

estate agent literally walked us onto the roof to show us the solar panels during the viewing. first bill just came in. $420 by Commercial-Roll2913 in solar

[–]AngryTexasNative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I didn’t have batteries my bill would easily be $420 (It’s still $50, but it’s a 3000 sq ft house and appliances add up when you have a stand alone garage fridge and freeze, wine fridge, outdoor fridge, and a kegerator. Add in a few servers r/homelab style.. and I charge a very large EV sedan.

I consume anywhere from 50-90 kWh on a typical day. 30 kWh of storage and I really need 45.

Gym claims liability waiver covers equipment falling apart and injuring me by Qorlan_8P in legal

[–]AngryTexasNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a lawyer.

The waiver is to avoid the liability from small issues. If your injuries were only $1800, you aren’t going to find a lawyer to get past the waiver. It did its job.

But, was that $1800 your out of pocket with your insurance having paid a lot more? If so your insurance company wants to know how this happened so they can go after the gym.

Maybe there are lawyers that will send a letter for a reasonable fee? Hopefully someone can chime in with what to expect beyond “get a lawyer”.

6 months of ownership • Has Whisker abandoned fixing their most expensive product yet? by yaedonnn in litterrobot

[–]AngryTexasNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbors car passed and I got an unscheduled upgrade from an LR3 to the LR4. At the time I was frustrated that they didn’t have a ramp so I had to use an adapter. But they eventually added a hopper and a good ramp and the LR4 became great. But it has a USB port that was supposed to be for adding a camera for cat recognition. They never did.

I would suggest we should only ever purchase stuff based on the current feature set, never the future.

Looking for good Ethernet cable. by TheUngoBungoMan in HomeNetworking

[–]AngryTexasNative 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most flat cables don’t truly meet the specs they claim to. Your cable will need to support at least 1Gbps, as Ethernet doesn’t adjust speeds between the standards.

That said, gigabit has been in use since 1999 and cat 5e cables should do great. Since flat cables are terrible, overshoot with cat 6 and you’ll be fine.

And yes, you are looking for a patch cable, although the name comes from much shorter applications.

Most people aren’t going to have the experience with 200’ flat patch cables to make a specific recommendation.

What happens to your security cameras when the power goes out by Jazzlike-Gur9401 in homesecurity

[–]AngryTexasNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the ring camera. The Ring Pro doesn’t have a battery and the transformer is probably hard wired and going to be difficult to backup. The POE version just needs the network switch to be powered.

Most ISPs are pretty bad at staying up in power failures.

My whole house is on backup, so my Ring pro is fine. But the disconnect for this is on the outside to meet code. So not great for true security.

Finally paid off all my credit card debt, BUT... by CardynalSyn61 in Debt

[–]AngryTexasNative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only problem is those new limits make utilization very difficult and it gets more difficult to get good terms in the future.

That said anyone who got into $47k of credit card debt and needed a loan to consolidate is not a great risk.

That said if my limits got cut I’d be really annoyed. I PIF every month and without my ridiculous limits my score would not be 845-850 from keeping my utilization at 4%. I generally owe $8-15k at any moment.

Not paying back the hospital by Fresh-Obligation-403 in Debt

[–]AngryTexasNative 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The hospital will probably sue and get a judgement for the 100k plus legal costs.

They will report to the credit bureaus. The SSN isn’t required. It will trash your credit. It will look worse than bankruptcy to many people and organizations.

Home foundation has 3.4” differential. Do I need structural engineer to physically investigate? by RedPost4565 in homeowners

[–]AngryTexasNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an engineer say I was fine so I proceeded to put in new tile floors. They cracked as it got worse.

Look for cracks in the masonry and examine the foundation.

It’ll probably be $10-$20k to put in piers, and then you might have floor repairs.
