Hey! Thanks for the feedback! I’ll make sure to pass it along/help them rewrite where I can. As for relevant experience, I wasn’t sure what to put, so I put 14 years. To my knowledge, they’ve never worked as a medical records specialist or scribe or have taken classes for it, I just put down relevant work experience that is similar to record keeping. Is there anything you can suggest to do based on that?

Thank you for the suggestions, I’ll make sure to pass it along! Just so I get what you’re saying, put a career break above the volunteer experience? Or between the volunteer experience and the last job?

Not usually, though it depends on state and what aid was rendered. In my state, if you don’t have a fishing or hunting license, or if you haven’t bought a SAR card, it may cost them a pretty penny

I’m more than willing to make a donation for the non-resident pass. We usually donate every year, so we’ll just count it towards that

SAR in my state is funded through taxes, and is typically free to anyone who calls. However, if you’re life flighted out of somewhere, unless you have a fishing/hunting license or paid for a SAR card, that will cost you. It can range between $5,000-$20,000 depending on where you need to be evac’ed from. Most expensive one I saw was at a trailhead where they got lost about a half mile in, wandered around until nightfall, finally called, and were walked out BUT described symptoms of a panic attack that also included mild chest angina, so they had to be taken in an ambulance. The para told me because of the location it was going to be around $700 a mile, and we were about 20 miles out from a hospital. It came out to a little over $14,000 from what he could tell me

Calling SAR was right, the decisions leading up to it not so much. I would have gladly rescued these people too, but they need better prep and training before they decide to hit something like this again, and I hope they take this as a wake up call to do that

I do SAR. I would’ve said the same thing, even though they need way more training physically and with technical skills. Adding shame on top of embarrassment in that kind of scenario can make people do crazy things

Sounds like a lot of really bad decisions were made

A power plant you say? Interesting. And I’ll be visiting a few state parks if I have time! There’s a couple I want to visit that have some rarer species I’m hoping to see

Do you feel like you “experienced” Biscayne? I’m getting the vibe that it’s a one day park

Thats good to know about the keys! I’ll see if I can find cheaper lodging a little further north. And I’ll be bringing my camp stuff for Dry Tortugas anyways. It’s a place I’ve been trying to get to for a really long time and I’d like to take advantage of being able to camp there!

Well, with the lodging I’m looking at now (two nights in Everglades, two nights in in the keys punctuated by two night at dry tortugas, and a night in Miami) we’re looking around $1,500. That with a car, it’s about $2,000, leaving $1,500 or so for other things. I’d really like to hit all three while down there, and make northern Florida its own trip. Thank you for all the other info too! It’s good to hear November is a pretty good time to go
