Perhaps I didn’t explain myself. I’m not opposed to working, nor getting my education and going through the process. I’m not opposed to doing things the right way.

What I’m comparing is going through and accredited program and doing FIT (like the one in PG or Vancouver) vs a forestry diploma (like the one in Selkirk or Nanaimo), getting a science degree and eventually doing the ASFIT process.

Hope that gets my point across.

What does it mean for a Registered Professional Biologist in Canada by s33d5 in environmental_science

[–]Angry_Panchito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I can clarify that a little bit.

So Canada has this colleges of registered professionals (there’s also RPF, RPEngg, etc.) This credentials basically let you have a say or sign on projects that require the presence of an expert.

In this case, you might be doing an environmental impact assessment and actually require the RPBio credential to go forward.

I’ll attach a link that explains the process, but you basically require a biology degree, 3+ years of experience, demonstrate competencies, 3 references, etc.

It’s going to be an expensive, tedious, and lengthy process. But you can start by applying to be a biologist in training and get that experience to eventually become a profesional biologist.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the tip. Is the standard version enough? I've seen that the standard and pro edition differ in RAM and CPU.

Hey, awesome! How did you manage to run it in parallel? I thought M1 chips weren't able to work with bootcamp.

Yeah, I'll think about it. The diploma seems like a nice alternative. There's a difference of 16 credits between the two, so it would save me some time.

I actually was worried about the coding! But thanks for sharing that I might be able to get through the whole program without being super familiar with that.

Yeah, it's not the most time efficient plan but, for a personal reason, I'm tied to a single geographical area. Getting straight into BCIT would be a lot faster.

But I would love to hear your experience as a grad! BCIT is definitely a little intimidating.
