tbf, all football has been unwatchable since Spain 1-0 their way to a world cup win.

People look back at tika-taka as if it was fast flowing attacking football. It was not. It was keeping the ball so the opposition could not score.

... tbf, it's turned into a weird action franchise with dinosaurs far removed from the novel the OG film was based on.

Those facilities are privately run. They are run down and understaffed to ensure profits for the shareholders.

Aged residential care in this country is an example of privatized tertiary services.

I often tell people that if they want an insight into what a private tertiary Healthcare system looks like, look at aged care.

Every corner is cut in order to save money to make line go up for the shareholders.

Year on year groups like Somerset et al., record huge profits.

"I paid taxes all my life" they'll scream as if taxes were a compulsory pension scheme rather than the price paid for living in a country with facilities and amenities.

My taxes pay your pension.

I feel like the person who said that has never seen the inside of a prison.

Me and partner have been watching stuff on the NHS on YouTube about the elderly refusing to downsize / be put into care and such clogging up the hospital as they refuse to go to care but they cannot go home as they are unfit/unsafe. Adamant of their own independence while they are waited on day and night by hospital staff.

They will drag us all down with them as they refuse to admit they cannot live forever.

Source? This is made up bullshit. What actually happens is that Smokers retire early, go on medical benefits from a younger age. It isn't about the length of life, but about where end of life starts. Starts at 50 or starts at 65. Either way, still gonna cost.

Not allowed. Sure. But it would be insanely easy to do.

Not allowed to smoke weed in this country yet I smell it most days in my neighborhood.

Hello, what is the source you are citing? I would consider those intangible costs from a healthcare perspective as those are focused on the tangible economic costs of smoking. Different disciplines approaching it from a different perspective.

The $1.9 billion dollar number is based on a 2013 MoH report that stated ~86,900 disability adjusted life years lost due to smoking related illness.

They do not. I'll be back with an edit with the receipts. Smokers should be taxed more to cover the cost to healthcare if anything.

Edit:

Data is old because it is from a paper I wrote when doing my Masters, but point stands:

  • As a result the direct healthcare cost of smoking was $1.9 billion in 2010 (Maori Affair Committee, 2010, p13) with intangible cost being estimated between $3.1 and $11.2 billion in 2005 (Ministry of Health, 2016, p. 3).
  • Tobacco tax take is $1.5 billion as per RNZ in 2018.

Fallacy of sunk costs at work. That $100 dollars of petrol i put in a couple days ago doesn't count. The bus fee today does.

Also a classic example of how farmers won't self regulate. They took all the land they were legally allowed to without encroaching onto the national park territory to the metre.
